Ferdinand is a rescue who was surrendered due to a medical issue (cherry eye) that was repaired by the shelter. He has lived with me for 3 years as a very loyal companion. However, life challenges are preventing me from giving him the attention and care that he needs and this is leading to the development of behavioral issues that I am not able to address.
The good: Ferdinand is very food motivated, which makes it very easy to teach him new commands and to practice obedience training. He also is very chill and is happy to spend most of his day sleeping in various places around the house. In the evenings, he loves cuddling up next to me on the couch or on his heated mat.
The challenges: Ferdinand is becoming more and more reactive to strangers in the home. He had a bite incident, but luckily no legal action was taken. He is crate-trained and is happy to wear a muzzle in public. The behavior could be extinguished with further training that I am unable to provide.
