My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Reason is an approx. 9 month old female Australian Shepherd weighing 35lbs. She spent the start of her life living in deplorable conditions at a puppy mill before recently coming into rescue. She is so sweet, very interested in making new friends (dog and people!) and is incredibly treat and praise motivated which should make training a breeze! She LOVES toys and almost always has one with her. She has the typical high energy of an Aussie but also loves a good cuddle session! She understands the concept of going potty outside with a consistent schedule and crates well in a quiet area.

Reason’s leash training is a work in progress as she is fearful of pressure from the leash, but has already improved immensely. We will send her off with some tips and tricks to work through this and as with all of our dogs, will be here for training advice throughout and after her adoption.

NO cats or small dogs due to her herding instincts, however Reason’s ideal adopter would have another playful dog in the house over 20lbs to keep her company. A fully fenced yard is required at this time due to her energy level and leash training.

Reason is accepting applications and is currently available for meet and greets with approved adopters! If you’re interested in adopting her or getting pre-approved for our other dogs, please fill out the adoption application at www.RosebudRescue.com/adopt

Please note, Reason is only available on a foster-to-adopt basis until spayed.

Additional adoption info

We will first look over your application and decide if you are a good fit for the dog in question. If we feel that dog is not right for you but have another we would recommend, we will reach out to you. If an application is missing ANY information, or if we feel anything indicated on the application does not align with the care we want our dogs to have, you will be denied.

The next step will be to reach out to your references. Please give them a heads up! You must call your vet and giving them permission to release information about current and past pets in your home to Rosebud Rescue and our volunteers. We will inquire with your vet about the care of current and past animals in your home and their vaccination status, spay/neuter status, monthly preventatives, etc. If renting, we must get confirmation from your landlord that you are able to adopt a dog. Please understand that reaching out to your references is time consuming, and we will only call once. If we are unable to get sufficient information from the references provided in a timely manner, we will not be able to approve your application.

Once fully approved, a representative will get in touch with you to schedule a meet and greet. The first meet and greet will be with human family members at our rescue or the dogs foster home. If there are other pets in your home we will do a slow and proper introduction at the home check.

Our adoption process is slow, well thought out, and in the best interest of our dogs and their adopters. In an effort to not rush things, we place a pending adoption status on our dogs after a meet and greet is scheduled. After the initial meet and greet, you will have 1 week to follow up with us on your decision before the dog is made available for adoption.

Rosebud Rescue dogs are available for scheduled meet and greets to approved adopters only, If there is not a dog you are immediately interested in you may fill out an application to become pre-approved to adopt, which will be kept on file for a calendar year.

More about this rescue

Rosebud Rescue Inc. is a 501c3 nonprofit organization in West Falls, NY specializing in herding breed dogs. Our goal is to rehabilitate and rehome to owners who understand the needs of a high energy working dog, and to offer permanent sanctuary and safe management for those who have been deemed unadoptable to the general public.

While we'll do our best to help any dog in need, our focus is primarily on herding breeds. These breeds are often misunderstood due to their drive, energy level, and instincts. Our goal is to provide our adopters with the education and tools to live healthy, fulfilling lives with these incredibly smart and loyal dogs!

Another area of focus for us are dogs with disabilities, behavioral issues, or medical issues. These dogs often require some extra attention and care in one way or another and we pride ourselves on taking the time to work with them to not only make their quality of life the best it can be, but to also help our adopters maintain that care after welcoming their new 4-legged family member.
