My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

CJ is ready to be your BFF ! He loves long walks, true crime podcasts, cuddles and quiet nights watching netflix (when's the new Bridgerton season coming out?)   He takes treats very gently and he rarely pulls on walks.  Sometimes I have to make sure he hasn't slipped his leash, that's how good he is!  CJ is a shepherd mix, almost 2 years old, about 47 pounds.  The perfect size pup, according to everyone he meets!  He is ready to play with our resident cat and is curious about other dogs.  CJ isn't really a barker, but it comes out occasionally.  He sleeps all night, but will whine a little in his crate first thing.  But, he calms down quickly.  He likes kids and people in general, anyone who gives him pets is his friend.  CJ is house trained.  He is some kind of shepherd, so he gets your attention to go potty by herding you to the door.   He is learning to play and loves his toys.  He occasionally wants to chew on the wrong thing, but easily and happily redirects to his toys.  He's going to be the best addition to your family!

If you are interested in adopting/meeting , please complete our online adoption application that you can find here: https://www.starfishanimalrescue.com/adopt/dog-adoption-application  . Your application will be reviewed by our team and if it is a good fit, we will send to the foster family to set up a meet!

The adoption fee of $300 will include spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate/required vaccinations, treatment for heartworm and any other necessary medical treatment to assure a healthy new pup for your family. IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: Although we do our best to describe breed, since our pups all come from shelters we can not and will not make any guarantee on breed or size. We can tell you that they are 100% RESCUED! And that is the BEST breed!

*please note that we are a foster home based rescue and we do home visits as part of the adoption process - we are unable to adopt to families who live outside of the Chicago and surrounding suburbs. Thank you for your understanding.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Our adoption fees range from $50 - $450 depending on species, age and breed. For dogs/puppies this covers spay/neuter, microchip, dewormers, flea and tick preventative, heartworm test (only over 6 months of age) and all up to date, age appropriate vaccinations. Cats are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and dewormed. We require an adoption application and a home visit prior to adoption.

We schedule meets with approved adopters only, so you must download our PreAdoption Application from our website at www.starfishanimalrescue.com and follow the instructions to email it to us.

Go meet their pets

We are not a shelter. We are a group of pet lovers and advocates who are committed to targeted rescue. Starfish Animal Rescue is a licensed rescue that is run by an all volunteer staff.
Once we rescue a dog or cat, it is placed in one of our foster homes until we are able to find it a suitable home. We are happy to set up an appointment to meet our pets once we receive and review your completed application.

We do our best to process applications quickly but please understand that we are a foster based rescue and that our volunteers work jobs; many are full time. Sending in a completed application is the best way to facilitate this process. You can go on our website www.starfishanimalrescue.com and download an application
Once your application is reviewed, we will put you in contact with the dog's foster family to set up a time to meet the pet of your choice!
Thank you for supporting our rescue and what we are trying to accomplish in southeastern Kentucky.
