My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST. Requirements of adoption for any of our dogs includes:
ADOPTION APPLICATION. We are unable to respond to inquiries that do not have a completed adoption application attached, which can be found here. https://www.twistedbranchaussies.com/adoptions-surrenders.html
• You must have a stable work and residence history. We are unable to adopt to college students.
• You must have the consent of all persons living in the home to adopt a dog from us.
• A fully fenced yard. 6’ fence is required in most situations.
• Information on your current former pets, and a veterinarian reference.
• The time, ability, and resources to care for your adopted dog on a day to day basis, and procedures in place for when you will be away.
• Puppies who have not completed their vaccinations are not able to be adopted to apartment homes, for health reasons. The common grounds required to walk a puppy could expose them to viruses.
WE DO NOT SHIP DOGS. We will not ship dogs to people we haven't met. You will have to come here and meet and interact with the dog as a condition of adoption.
-----------------------------------
Look at this gorgeous boy! His name is Oz, and he is every bit as wonderful as he is handsome. Oz is a 1 year old purebred red merle Aussie with stunning blue eyes. He is a big boy, weighing 56 pounds with a stocky bone structure, and the typical Aussie energy, but Oz is very nicely behaved when you ask him to settle down in the house. Oz is the typical Velcro Aussie who only wants to be where you are and will follow you everywhere. But he’s not clingy, and will hang out in the office or even kitchen with you and not bother you, calmly lying in the floor and happy to just be with you. Oz loves other dogs who are willing to play, and respects the space of those who don’t want to play. He also likes to play fetch with a ball, and will chase it as long as you are willing to throw it. He’s housetrained and crate trained, sleeps in his crate at night and patiently waits to go outside in the morning. He knows some obedience commands and will gladly do whatever you want for a treat (treats are the BEST!), but needs a little work on the leash, which he will pick up on quickly. Although Oz sleeps in his crate at night, he would be perfectly happy to sleep in the bed with you if you don’t mind a bit of a bed hog. He is a very nice boy with no bad habits that we have seen, but given his young age and large size, he is not suitable for a home with small children or cats, and is probably too much of a dog for a home with very small dogs. Oz is current on vaccinations, flea and heartworm preventatives, is microchipped, and will be neutered prior to adoption. He is available for a $400 adoption fee, and an adoption application is required.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Please keep in mind that we are not a shelter where you can visit dogs and go home with one that day. We are a home and family first, and a rescue secondly, and in order to maintain a family environment for the dogs, we are only able to offer visits after we have an approved adoption application from you. We put a great deal of effort into every dog that we rescue, sometimes driving several hours to rescue them and then spending a huge amount of time caring for them physically, training them, socializing them with other dogs, and teaching them house manners. We bring these dogs into our home, into our family, and in some cases, into our bed to sleep with us. They are our family, and we care deeply about every dog that comes into our rescue. For this reason, we are very particular about where our dogs go. We do not adopt on a first-come, first-serve basis, but instead adopt to the family who is the best match for that particular dog.

Adoption Requirements and Procedure:

*We must have a reviewed, approved Adoption Application from you before scheduling a visit with the dogs.
*You must have a securely fenced yard for your adopted dog. We do not adopt dogs to homes where they would be allowed to roam free on acreage. This is for the safety of the dog.
*Due to health concerns for young puppies, puppies under the age of 4 months can’t be adopted to apartment homes where they would be exposed to other dogs. Puppies underage for spay/neuter are only available for local adoption.
*You must be able to travel here to meet and adopt your new dog. We do not ship dogs, and we want the opportunity to meet you in person before trusting you with one of our babies.
*You must be patient with us! Once we receive your application, we will need time to review it, check references, and conduct a home visit to ensure that you can provide a safe environment for your new dog. The whole process could take as much as two weeks. Please keep this in mind when you apply, as you will not be able to apply and adopt the same day.

More about this rescue

With few exceptions, we do not use foster homes. Most of the dogs in our rescue live here in the home with us as members of our family, and they sleep and eat indoors and have free run of the yard during the day. We feel that this is the best way for us to prepare these dogs for adoption and life with their new families, to teach them house manners and basic obedience training, and to get to fully know them so that we can make a proper placement.
