My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Introducing Dexter, an 8-year-old Pittie mix whose soulful eyes tell a story of resilience and hope. Don't be misled by his melancholy expression; it masks the heart of a dog bursting with joy and an eagerness to share his love. Dexter's journey hasn't been easy, but his spirit remains unbroken, ready to embrace a new chapter in a loving forever home.

Dexter is the embodiment of loyalty and affection. His demeanor around other dogs reflects his friendly and sociable nature, making him an excellent companion for families with furry members. Dexter's leash manners are impeccable, promising peaceful and enjoyable walks, whether in the bustling city or on tranquil country trails.

Affection is Dexter's language of love. He thrives on human connection, cherishing every hug and cherishing head pat as if it were a precious gift. His gratitude for every gesture of kindness is profound, and in return, he offers unwavering loyalty and companionship.

Dexter's ideal home is one where he can be part of the family, sharing in the daily joys and comforts of home life. He dreams of a place where his sad expression will be a distant memory, replaced by the contentment and happiness that come with being loved and cherished.

Open your heart and home to Dexter, and discover the boundless love and loyalty of a dog who has overcome adversity with grace. Give him the opportunity to turn his frown upside down, and in return, he promises to fill your life with laughter, loyalty, and love. Dexter is not just looking for a house to live in; he's searching for a home where love knows no bounds.

More about this rescue

Sonoma's Haven Inc. 501(c)3 organization was founded in June 2015 after seeing the shortage of fosters that are able to take in rescue dogs needing a safe place to stay until they are adopted. This is a crucial part of the process and Sonoma’s Haven is here to help the rescues. Without space for a dog to go they are unable to intake the dog. Sometimes the situation is urgent and they cannot wait for a foster to step up or the dog might need help medically and emotionally before its ready to be in a home setting. Our organization creates a safe atmosphere for dogs to begin the process of healing and learning the joys of life. We finished our new facility in Sealy, Tx in June 2018. We were able to include a lounge area in our building design which allows dogs to enjoy some of the things usually only dogs in a home environment experience. The lounge includes super comfy couches for them to hang out on and decompress and just get some one on one attention from staff and volunteers. All of our staff members have a passion for caring for these dogs that stay with us. We get to be a stepping stone for these dogs as they learn how to trust humans again and enjoy what it is supposed to be like for a dog. We have a large fenced area that they get to run and play in. Understanding that the dogs here are searching for that perfect foster/forever home we like to capture photos and videos of the dogs to assist the rescues in their efforts to network the dogs.
