My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Kie, or Big Mike as he is affectionately called in his foster home, is a big dog with a big personality! He is listed as a lab/shepherd mix based on what is listed on his rabies certificate, but we are told he is actually a known mix of Boxer and German Shepherd. We have not confirmed that with any DNA test, however. He currently weighs about 65 pounds and is a tall, leggy dog.

Big Mike is a young, spunky, and comical dog who is a natural athlete. His foster mom is a runner and he easily keeps up for 6-7 miles at a time and could go much further as he comes home with plenty of gas in the tank. He also adores toys and will self entertain with a good squeaky toy (though he needs toys that are built to last!) or would be happy to engage in a session of tug or fetch. His foster family has two kids who love his enjoyment of toys. Big Mike provides endless giggles as they toss the ball and he happily runs and pounces after it. After a good day, there is no better snuggle bug than Big Mike! He simply wants to be with his people.

Big Mike is dog friendly and integrates easily with other dogs of various sizes. He has shown no resource guarding tendencies with dogs or people and generally is quite social with people, though can occasionally get spooked by a hat or hood. He handles vet care and nail trims well and is fully crate trained. He does well with house training, but on occasion has an accident when he is in a new place or overly distracted.

Big Mike is a great dog, but like everyone, he does have some areas to work on. He does live with a cat, but he does not understand why he cannot wrestle, chase and generally pester him. He is not out to do harm, but he needs to learn boundaries with cats. Big Mike is 100% in the teenage stage of life and will need someone who understands this. He is busy, impulsive, and will need to continue to learn boundaries with someone who can continue to give him positive real world experience. Big Mike is capable of jumping a 4 foot chain link fence, though stays contained in his 4 foot wooden fence and isn't a runner. If his yard is fenced, it will need to be wooden or 6 feet tall.

Overall, Big Mike is a fantastic, fun, playful pup looking for a home of his own.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Our adoption process includes adoption application which can be completed at our website wagsmn.org. Current fees can also be accessed on our website. After reviewing your application, a meeting is scheduled between you and the pet in the foster’s home or a neutral dog friendly place. If there are any resident dogs in your home, it is required that the dogs meet at this time. After the meeting, a home visit is scheduled and, if everything goes well with the visit, the adoption is finalized. A home visit by one of our representatives is required prior to finalizing any adoption, and we must meet all members of the household where the pet will be living sometime during the adoption process. We reserve the right to refuse any applicant for any reason Adoption fee includes: vet exam(s), spay/neuter, de-worming, heartworm test (if 6 months of age or older), vaccinations, microchip, and FIV/FeLv testing (for cats only). Email is the best way to get a fast response (wagswhiskersmn@gmail.com).
