My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Stanley is a slightly odd-looking but nonetheless charming little 5-year-old, tiny 5 1/2-pound Chihuahua. He is impeccably well-behaved and lives to adore his people.

When Stanley looks at you with those wide-set eyes, it will melt your heart. He adores his foster dogmom and follows her wherever she goes. Even if she’s just strolling around the backyard, he’s right there at her heels. He loves to sit beside or be held, and he goes positively nuts over butt scratches. He has no fear of strangers and loves everybody. He has been with his fosters for 4 months and not once has he barked or growled.

Stanley lives in a foster home with 5 dogs and 5 cats and gets along with everybody. He doesn’t play with the other dogs, possibly because they’re all at least 3 times his size, but he doesn’t bother them either. He has no interest in toys, either. There is one game he loves though: His foster moves her fingers like she’s type on the bed (or couch or floor) in front of him and says, “Gitcha, gitcha, gitcha.” Stanley gets very excited and drums with his front paws. It’s very adorable.

Stanley likes to be swaddled in a blanket and at 5 pounds would be an excellent dog to take with you wherever you go, if you are so inclined. He would sit well in a shoulder dog carrier. He is a very mellow, low-maintenance dog.

Even though he’s very low maintenance, we checked off the Special Needs box for two reasons. First, he needs to stay on seizure medication. His medication is low-cost ($16 a month) and available at pharmacies so you don’t have to take him to the vet every month. We just sprinkle it on top of his food and he gobbles it right down. He’s been on the medication for months and has not had a single seizure.

His other issue is a boy-Chihuahua thing: he’s a marking machine, lifting his leg every few minutes to pee on everything. But we have an easy solution to that: he wears belly bands. We put a thin Always-brand pad in the belly band. He happily stands still while you put it on him.

Stanley would do best in a quiet home and would be a perfect dog for anyone wanting a little bit of companionship without a lot of fuss. He would do equally well in a house or a first-floor apartment. He requires a little bit of extra care but gives back so much in love and devotion.

Stanley’s adoption fee is $125 and includes all shots & microchip. He is heartworm-negative and on heartworm medication.
