My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Socialization/training: Chryssa is very sweet and loving. She loves all adults and children and is quick to lean into anyone willing to pet her. She plays well with dogs her size and smaller at the dog park. Chryssa rides well in the car as well as the golf cart where she is tethered in, of course. Chryssa is very food motivated, so training comes pretty easy for her.  She has been working on Sit, Stay and Off. She was a countertop surfer when she first arrived, but that has gotten better in our presence.

Crate trained: Chryssa is great in her crate. At night she goes right into her crate where she sleeps through the night with the door open. If we leave during the day for a few hours she will go into her crate with a little help and lie down and await our return.

Leash trained: Chryssa walks well with a harness with the typical prey drive when birds, rabbits or squirrels are in sight.

Activity Level: Chryssa enjoys a walk or hike in the morning as well as one in the evening or running off leash in the dog park with her friends. She loves to play with her toys inside or in the yard, but requires super tough toys as she is quite a chewer.

Fence: We have a 5' rod iron and block wall combo that she has never challenged. A fenced yard would be best for her so she can play and burn off energy during the day when not on walks or at the dog park. She is still quite young.

Behavior: Chryssa is affectionate, playful and a happy dog. She would love to sit in your lap or cuddle next to you on the couch. She is calm in the house and does not bark. She will check on you if you leave the room but then lays back down. She is a bit independent and a bit velcro, so a nice combo.

Medical History: Chryssa is very healthy. She is spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations and on monthly heartworm and flea and tick prevention. Her next Leishmaniasis test is due November of 2024.

Chryssa originates from Greece where Leishmaniasis is endemic. She tested negative before coming to the USA, but the parasite can remain dormant in the system for many years, so potential adopters must be willing to commit to annual testing for the next 7 years. Typically, the test needs to be sent to a special lab, but any regular vet can draw the blood and send it to the lab. The cost of the test seems to vary widely by area, but is approximately $150-$250 or if your vet is willing to send the test to a veterinary college lab, cost can be as low as $80.

Foster Comments: Chryssa is a really wonderful dog. She is smart, sensitive and loving. She would be okay as an only dog but also would love the company of a fur sibling. Her ideal family would have a fenced yard for her to play in and also an active family to take her on lots of walks and hikes and incorporate her into their everyday lives and she loves to be with her humans.

Foster Location: Florence, Arizona

Volunteer transport can be arranged in the Continental US within a 1,000-mile distance between adopters & foster home. If interstate transport is provided for your adopted dog, there will be an additional charge of $50.00 for the required Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (“Health Certificate”).  Typically, we are able to transport your adopted dog to within 2 hours of your home. *Dogs can be adopted outside the 1000-mile transport distance; however, adopters must be willing to either fly their adopted dog, drive to a location within the 1000-mile transport range, or make independent transport arrangements for their adopted dog. Transports to far Western states, from Eastern states, may have additional restrictions.

An applicant is not guaranteed the dog they apply for.
Applicants must complete the application process before speaking with foster homes.
We do NOT hold dogs for anyone. We have had people who were disappointed that they did not get the dog they initially applied for, but the ones who hung in there with us would not change a thing now that they have their A & B Dog.

Please Note:
1:You must be at least 21 years old to apply to adopt an A&B Setter.
2: Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
3: Proof of heartworm preventative and testing is REQUIRED (via vet records or receipts) for current dogs and recently passed dogs.
4: Signature is implied and assumed on e-mail & online Adoption Applications.

Above & Beyond English Setter Rescue's adoption fee is
$450.00 for puppies and dogs under one year.
$400.00 for dogs one up to three years
$350.00 for dogs three to six years
$250.00 for dogs seven to ten years
Reduced fee on a sliding scale for dogs 11 years and older.

We have made every attempt at keeping our adoption fee the lowest we could despite the rising costs associated with spaying and neutering, immunizations, and other related routine care. In most instances our adoption fee never comes close to the care associated before an adoption of one of our dogs takes place. We do feel however that our adoption fee is still less then if the adopter had to pay these expenses out of their pocket. In most cases volunteer transport is available for your adopted dog up to 1000 miles and within 2 hours of your home.

Mission Statement

Above and Beyond English Setter Rescue's goal is rescuing English Setters in need of new homes. While in our care the dogs will be vetted, spayed or neutered, and evaluated in foster homes, where they can learn love and stability and we can determine which type of home would work best for each dog.

Once adopted, Above and Beyond volunteers will be available for the dogs and adopters for each dog's life, with advice and support. Our mission is to put the dog's welfare above all else.

We are a non-profit, charitable 501(c)(3) organization. 100% of your donation goes to help English Setters in need and is tax deductible.

For more information on our mission, or for assistance, please contact us.
