My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Six-year-old neutered male. He is a Pit mix. He is a very intelligent dog and has a very strong will. He likes to be alpha with other dogs, but after a flash of growling and snarling he usually settles into rambunctious play with other dogs. So, he is dog selective. He demands lots of attention and affection and will crawl on your lap and snuggle for long periods of time. He is underfoot most of the day. He likes to play tug of war and destroying cardboard boxes with you. He is a very powerful dog, so I do not recommend him for older people or very small females. As you can see from his pictures, he is strikingly handsome and always gets lots of attention when we take him out in public.

Maverick is a family dog. he needs lots of human attention.

We walk Maverick 2-5 miles every day. He gets rather pent up without his walks.

Maverick has Terrier characteristics and has a very high prey drive. Groundhogs, moles, rats, mice are his favorite. If you have a large garden or farm and have problems with groundhogs, then Maverick is your man. He is absolutely fixated on groundhogs. Unfortunately, he will also kill cats. Maverick can become very territorial and aggressive. Do NOT give him a bone or rawhide chew toy. He turns into Cujo.

He has never bitten anyone. He's very good with small children who will grab him by the face and ears and in fact, he loves to wrestle and rough house.

We are moving back to Florida and unfortunately feel we cannot take him to a city type environment. It saddens us because he is part of our family, and we love him so so much.

Maverick is a lot of work, but his huge personality and charisma. Make it very worth it.

More about this rescue

We are a non-profit animal rescue group.

We started out as just a fund, at our local vet, to help pay for operations, etc. for animals in need. Now we rescue animals in need: injured, sick, old, or dying. We give them a second chance and the best life we can until a forever home can be found. We take animals most other rescues turn down because we believe all life is worth our efforts.

Our organization is all volunteer and foster based, because we do not have a shelter. We do not euthanize our animals to make room for more. We run totally on donations and are willing to take any type [money, food, toys, bedding, crates, etc.]. Donations can be mailed to PO Box 2371, Marion NC 28752.
