My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

My name is Ruger, and I'm a 3.5 year old Pittie who is just a happy clunk head. I adore people so much, and really love belly rubs. I can be wary of strangers at first, and I can be protective of my people, but I warm up so quickly to new friends. I love treats so I'm super treat motivated. I'm even potty trained!  I really like to play with toys and go for walks, but also appreciate quite snuggle time. I'm not a fan of other dogs, though I might be able to play with a dog friend outside of my home after proper introductions. I'm such a happy-go-lucky boy, and hope you'll be my new best friend.

More about this shelter

It is the primary mission of CCHS to operate a "no time limits" shelter for domestic (non-feral) dogs and cats from Keweenaw, Houghton, and Baraga Counties and the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community in accordance with the guidelines set by the Michigan Department of Agriculture. The shelter receives animals from animal control and private citizens. CCHS works to return lost animals to their owners and to identify suitable homes for the remaining animals. These animals are not judged by "time of stay" to determine adoptability. Euthanasia will be considered per veterinarian recommendation based on health, temperament and quality of life and will only be performed by a veterinarian. While in our care, animals receive professional, quality care by concerned individuals dedicated to helping animals.
