My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Intake Date: 26 February 2024 -------- Age at Intake: 2 yrs ----- Breed: Poodle Mix ----- Size: 50 lbs ----- Status: Hoarding situation ----- Compatible with: Dogs, cats and children ----- Suitable for: home with a fenced yard. No exceptions ----- Medical/Behavioral Needs: Shy,, requires regular grooming ----- Additional Notes: Welcome Emerson! A stunning little beauty that was part of the 26 dog hoarding and neglect case. What we have learned so far is that he is thoroughly enjoying his new hair cut. Has no idea that he is to go outside to go potty so he will need housetraining. He did pick up the dog door quickly but still goes indoors sometimes. He didnt understand the leash but is doing well now. He is quite shy but not aggressive or snappy. He will require regular grooming and coat maintenance to ensure it never gets to the condition it was in when he was brought to rescue. He will likely thrive in a calm home and ideally, would love to be adopted with Logan. They seem to be very close. An adopter will have to be very willing to understand and accept that he is not a "typical" dog but that that is not an excuse not to challenge him and expose to him to new things so thathe can learn to navigate his emotions and responses. The only way for a dog to blossom is to not put them in a box and instead allow them to encountering new things that may make them uncomfortable or that makes them uneasy. He deserves a family that will help him GROW and develop and get more and more confident, not shelter him. Knowing that is going to take time and a lot of consistent work. And he deserves to feel safe and confident in the world. The work is worth it! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If interested in meeting and potentially adopting please read the adoption requirements and complete the adoption application located at forbellessake.org. Once processed and approved a meet and greet can be scheduled and if a match an adoption is finalized at that time. Adoption fee is $175 and all dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, and treated for any known medical needs. Breeds are not guaranteed but often a best guess. Housetraining is not guaranteed but crate training is worked on with all residents. If a yard is present, a secure fence is prioritized.
