My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We are a matched based adoption agency, if you see a dog in our program in which you are interested in adopting, please fill out our online application at kcpaws.org and one of our adoptions counselors will be in touch once your application has been screened. Please note that we do require dogs to meet all members of the family including existing pets in the home before finalizing during your in home adoption.

Meet Journey!

Journey is a year old spayed female Brittany mix! She loves all people and absolutely loves playing with other dogs. Journey does have some special medical needs, so keep reading to hear more about her story.

This sweet girl is only a year old and has been through so much already. At just 6 months, she jumped from a moving golf cart and broke her hip. The owners got her on pain medication and called it good, before eventually deciding to surrender her to a local shelter much later. The shelter was able to get her in for X-Rays and found that she had fractured her hip. Because they are in a small town and have limited resources, the shelter reached out to us to take over Journey's medical care and get her the help she needs. Upon taking her to our vet, they noticed that since the incident had happened a while ago, her leg had actually started to heal itself. The femoral head had disintegrated and all the muscles and ligaments around it have tightened up to start the healing process. Because of this, the doctor thought it actually would be more invasive and cause more arthritis and pain to go in for surgery than it would to treat with medication and supplements. She is monitored closely daily and with some joint supplements and mild pain medication, she has done much better! She is putting more weight on that leg and actually getting to play with other dogs her size and exercise relatively normally! She will likely need to be on joint supplements and anti- inflammatory medication for the duration of her life, and it's possible she could need surgery in the future, but right now she is healing and not letting it get her down! Journey has so much life and love to give and we can't wait to see her find her furever family! If you would like to meet her, please fill out an application at kcpaws.org.
