My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

When Airstream was abandoned, he fought with community cats all night and howled for his people all day.

We thought neutering would help, both with the fighting and the yowling, but we quickly realized two important things about Airstream: 1) He has serious hearing loss and 2) he was very near death.

We had no idea how special Airstream would become.

When Airstream came in, he had a bad limp, swollen eye, scratched up nose, tattered ears, broken teeth, and anemia that was bad enough to warrant a blood transfusion. Though he put up a good front, he could barely eat or stand. He slept on my chest and licked food from my finger, until a full month of strong antibiotics began their work. We were shocked by how muscular, curious, and playful he quickly became – more like a teenager than the 5-year-old his teeth suggested. A trip to the dentist led to his biggest transformation.

Now Airstream is full of endless purrs. He snuggles into laps. Every morning, he greets each of us with an outstretched paw, a head bump, and a sloppy kiss. He stands on his hind legs and stretches up full length until we lift him into our arms. Intensely social, Airstream loves his people, the more people the better. He doesn’t care if his people are loud (he can’t hear anyway) or the house is bustling (nothing seems to scare him except losing sight of his people, which will elicit heart-rending yowls). He likes to be in the center of the action, with his nose in everything. As long as he is loved, everything is an adventure to Airstream. Washing dishes? Yep (loves water). Doing laundry? Of course (hampers and dryers are both great fun). Travelling by car? No problem (as long as he can look out the window). Taking a walk in the backyard? As long as he can lay across your shoulders (we haven’t tried, but we think Airstream might even like a leash or backpack).

Airstream is not an elegant, graceful cat who moves on silent paws. He’s ridiculous, funny, and loud. He tumbles and skids, runs into walls, jumps on everything, climbs into everything, pats your face, grabs your legs (though never with claws) and he is extremely talkative (think Siamese or Tonkinese but with a volume control problem). People with noise sensitivity should not apply. But if you’re looking for a best friend for life or a number one sidekick, this is you guy! Airstream is loyal and uniquely protective - he likes all his people together and will run from room to room to keep an eye out, almost like a sheep dog; he will also stand at your side and growl at strangers until proper introductions have been made. He demonstrates his love in a hundred ways each day, from endless chirps and kisses to countless presents: No bottle caps, toys, bread ties, socks, or stray tortilla chips will ever be safe.

Airstream Pine may be 4-5 years old and is neutered, FeLV negative, FIV positive, current on shots, treated for fleas and worms, microchipped, and litter box trained. Airstream is affectionate, athletic, brave, curious, playful, chatty, and hearing impaired.

* You must be 18 or older to adopt. If you’re under 18, you must have a parent or guardian submit an application on your behalf.
* All cats must be kept indoors. In special circumstances, we may waive this requirement on a case-by-case basis.
* We do not adopt to any home that will declaw an animal. Declawing is cruel and unnecessary.
* All cats/kittens must be spayed/neutered prior to adoption.
* Kittens under 6 months must be adopted in pairs or into a home with another active cat or cat-friendly dog.
* Your adoption fee helps to cover a small part of the costs of veterinary care. However, we strongly recommend that you take your new kitty to your vet for a check-up shortly after adopting to establish a relationship and a lifetime of regular check-ups and care.
