My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Artemis!
3 years
51 lbs

Artemis was found down in Tennessee. She’s had multiple litters and now this momma is ready to find her forever home!

We think Artemis has spent a lot of her life in a crate: When she came to us she would not leave the crate! Her current foster family is working on getting her confident outside of the crate. She still has access to her bed for comfort when she gets nervous.

Artemis is house trained and is left out of the crate when foster family leaves. She does not have accidents and goes outside in a fenced in backyard or while on a leashed walk.

She is very quiet and low-key, but discovering a playful side. She gets a daily 10-20min leisurely walk but we are working on going longer. If she is feeling uncomfortable she will refuse to continue walking and pull on her leash to head back home. If you are the right family for Artemis please note that you will need to continue to work on building her confidence on walks! She is great on a leash and is not reactive to other dogs or people, but loud noises might scare her and if she wants to turn around and go home she is VERY strong.

Artemis needs to be adopted by a family with another dog to continue developing her confidence. She loves snuggling with her foster sister (Penny, Australian cattle dog) and they share a water bowl. Does not share food bowl but can be fed at same time. No food aggression, no eating from each other’s bowls, no toy aggression, etc.

She loves playing with her two toys, a teddy bear and a lamb stuffed animal. Once she is comfortable with your family she will toss it in the air and catch it and wrestle with it. It is the cutest thing to watch! She also LOVES to play tug of war. She loves to chew on bones and likes pretty much all human food. She is very gentle when taking treats.

Artemis likes squeaky toys, supervising human kitchen activity, helping load the dishwasher, following current foster family around, cuddling & belly rubs, meats and cheeses, popcorn, sunbathing, couches, blankets, beds. She does not like walks if she hears a loud noise, carrots, and vegetables of any sort, and sometimes she will bark if a certain family member(s) left the house and she cannot find them.

What is Artemis working on? Being a dog! She is starting to break out of her shell and will need a family that has another dog to build her confidence. Also working on going outside and just “enjoying” and sniffing around. Previously would just do her business and then return to her crate/corner for safety.

She has not been around cats. Her current foster family includes a 6yr old girl and 9yr old boy. Kids need to be dog savvy since she is easily spooked. She’d do fine in a home with older kids or no kids too.

She doesn’t know the name Artemis but (sometimes) responds to the name Missy. Foster family has been calling her “Artemissy!

If you are the right fit for Artemis you must be a patient person. You must be willing to put in the work. She will not come to you…you need to go to her consistently and frustration free. This is no quick fix. Expect to work building her trust with humans every single day for a long time. But, if you are the right person, she is truly a diamond in the rough and it will be so rewarding to watch her blossom!
