My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

LOCATION: Corpus Christi, Texas
DOB: 03/17/2021 (Estimate)

Hi! I’m still with my owner right now. I’m looking for a foster (fosters get first option to adopt!). This way the team can get to know me better and get an all clear from the vet. Read my bio below!

Luke is a very handsome Merle mix with captivating eyes. Rescued from a neglectful neighbor who failed to provide him with even the most basic necessities, Luke was discovered in a pitiful state—skinny, infested with worms, and left to fend for himself without shade, food, or water. Despite his hardships, Luke's desire for connection is strong, as he learned how to escape his awful home several times. Luke's journey to his current loving home has been one of will and survival.

Thankfully, Luke's fortunes changed when his current owner took him in, offering him the love, care, and security he deserved. With her dedication and nurturing touch, Luke has transformed into a healthy and exuberant fellow. However, his ability to escape is strong and his new owner worries that he will be injured on one of his escapades. He can easily get over a 6 foot wooden fence.

Despite his wanderlust, Luke is a gentle giant at heart who has a love of other dogs and a playful demeanor that is very endearing. While he may chase cats, turkeys, ducks, chickens and guineas, he has never harmed them. His intentions are that of fun.

Luke does well with children, happily joining them on the trampoline for afternoons of laughter and exercise. He lives with a 6-year-old and has been great. His energy and affection make him the perfect playmate for kids of all ages. He really is an ideal companion.

Luke is a pro when it comes to basic training, excelling in housebreaking, crate training, and obedience. He is good on a leash but will pull a bit. However, he does have his quirks, including getting into the trash and counter surfing—a habit picked up from his previous neglectful environment. When you don’t know when your next meal is coming, you may get resourceful right? He has been known to destroy dog beds by chewing. He also hates pedicures. Despite these challenges, he has so much potential to become the most perfect family member.

With his protective nature and initial wariness towards men, Luke may require a patient and understanding introduction, but once he knows he's safe, his loyalty and affection are apparent. He craves human interaction and thrives on companionship, making him the perfect buddy for someone who can offer him the love, time, and attention he needs.

Some things you need to know about Luke that makes him ultra-endearing. Luke is OBSESSED with grass – he’ll face surf the grass in everyone’s yard while on a walk. Like EVERY YARD. Luke will get in the trash if given the opportunity. And if he wants what you’re eating, he will “talk” a lot.

Luke is a survivor, a pal, and a beloved member of the family. He needs a devoted adopter who has a secured yard-someone who can work with him on feeling safe, secure and grounded. With his playful spirit, gentle nature, and unwavering loyalty, he's going to make someone very happy.

More about this rescue

To rescue Great Danes from neglect, abuse, and abandonment while providing medical care and individual rehabilitation through our experienced and loving foster home program until we are able to provide each rescued Dane with a qualified, caring, and permanent home that will ensure a good quality of life they deserve.

To assist owners that cannot afford spaying, neutering or heartworm treatment as funds allow while also educating owners on affordable, local spay/neuter clinics, spay/neuter benefits, vaccinations, backyard breeding, behavior, nutrition, and obedience. Additionally, we want to be a link point to other rescues and clubs. Raising awareness around rescues and the Great Dane breed is of great importance to us.

We have been rescuing Great Danes since 2011 and we take pride in the collective love, concern, and dedication we have given to the misunderstood and forgotten Danes. It is our mission to continue to be the voices of the less fortunate Danes and to provide them safety and their birthright to a quality of life filled with love and dignity. You can help us achieve our mission by donating funds, items from our wishlist, items of relevance, your time through volunteering, or by lending your home as a foster.
