My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, I am Arya, a 4 year old, 20 lb Jindo mix from South Korea. I'm 13 inches tall and have the most unusual white heart-shape on my face. I'm hoping it means that you will fall in love when you see me. I've been living in the Pacific Northwest for the past 4 years. My adopters are rehoming me as they have a new baby. Their other dog and I have always got along well, but since the new human has arrived, I have tried to protect the baby. As a result, I am seeking another home. The following is a summary of what my current adopter has said about me:

'Arya is a spunky, loving dog. For the most part she's a quiet girl, but when guests or strangers come to the door, she'll let out some barks so you know she's there. She takes some warming up to new friends, but becomes very attached to her humans. You'll often find her sitting next to you on the side of the couch waiting for pets - which she can never get enough of.

We're a bilingual household (Italian) so we've trained her in italian commands, although she seems to know the English version or follow hand gestures. With a "salta" you'll get a nice warm hug from her.

She runs around the yard like a leaping deer, and loves to play 'keep away' with her toys. She loves walks and running around the yard, chasing after squirrels or sniffing at the neighbor dogs through fence slats. She can be shy and timid, especially around loud noises or people, so while potty trained, she can experience some rare accidents in stressful situations.

While shy at first with new people, she loves our son and does well with him. She's done well with other dogs both at home and at daycare. We would suggest a home with no little children, however, as she seeks to protect them.'

I am spayed and microchipped and my immunizatios are up to date.

HISTORY: My mother was pregnant when she was found as a stray and taken to the city pound.  So that's where I was born, along with my 5 littermates. My mom was fortunate to be adopted from there, but at 10 weeks of age we were all placed on the euthanasia list.

Thankfully one of the volunteers saved us from there, only to discover that we had contracted Parvovirus and would all need to be quarantined and treated. This can be a deadly virus for small puppies, but amazingly we all survived. As it turned out, I never was infected, but had the treatment nevertheless.

Now we are all 100% healthy and ready to find our forever homes.

Of all of us I am the most calm and also the most sociable. I don't mind being handled by complete strangers, in fact I welcome it. Any attention from you humans is a bonus in my eyes! Children are lovely little people and I really enjoy being around them too.

Some of my other favourite things are wrestling with my siblings and making new friends at the dog park. Dogs closer to my own size are my preferred playmates. Though I am very comfortable around the bigger ones, I just tend not to play with them.

I have been introduced to a cat and was hopeful that she could become my friend also. But she didn't seem interested, and that's cool with me. Not everyone can be my friend I suppose, although I would like that very much.

If you're looking for a confident, sociable and easy-going dog who is also quiet and calm, then you wouldn't go wrong picking me.

I have two sisters who will soon be available to on this site, but why wait - I'm ready and willing to be yours today.

Information included in the profile is provided to us from the international rescuer or local fosters. LALDR does not have access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of the descriptions. Remember, every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person leading him and the environment. The age and breed of a dog is almost always an educated guess and at no time do we promise or guarantee the age or breed of a dog.

Normally, we will not approve adoptions to homes with children under 12 years of age. More information can be found on our website.

Many of these dogs have experienced hardship and cruelty yet they are gentle and loving. We have found that dogs who have experienced suffering appreciate every kindness shown them.
