My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Nicki had been living tied up on a 3 ft rope for over 6 months when we were contacted about her. The week prior to her coming into rescue her owner had abandoned her with no food or water. Fortunately this was a time when there was a lot of rain, or she may not have survived. We were sent a video of a stranger giving her tortilla’s, we knew right then we had to help her. Her body language towards this stranger, was a testament to what a sweet girl she was. Nicki has now been with one of our fosters since March 1st but this was only supposed to be a temporary situation and we are hoping to find someone else in the San Diego area that can continue fostering or ultimately willing to adopt her. Nicki is very approachable and bonds very quickly. However, once she settles in to her new environment she will start getting protective, she is a guardian breed and this is to be expected. In Nicki’s previous life her owner took her to dog parks and all around town with him. However, a puppy presa is very different than an adult presa and we would never advocate for this. We have seen her be reactive on a leash when another dog barks at her. She’s also shown a desire to play when observing other playful dogs. We have not had her loose around other dogs and cannot say one way or another if she’s good with other dogs. However, we can say most altercations with new dogs is due to owner failure and going to fast. Ideally we are hoping to find a home without other dogs or a home that can initially keep her separate from other dogs and has the ability to slowly integrate and we can help with this process. Presa’s are known for same sex aggression and we will not consider homes with other female dogs. She has been reactive when she sees cats, and we will not consider homes with a cat. She has loved all children she meets but our fosters have very respectful children that are very familiar with large dogs, and for us to consider children we would need to meet your children and hear about your parenting style before considering. When Nicki is out and about with her foster she generally ignores other people but there was an incident where she barked at two guys walking by. She is a presa, this is normal, and anyone looking to bring her into their home needs to have guardian breed experience. We have an application process. There will be a homecheck and an interview to help us determine the suitability of the placement. Please do not call the number listed. If you are interested in meeting her send us a message and let us know if you are interested in fostering or adopting (our screening process is different) and we will forward you an application. We can only utilize foster homes in the San Diego area and do give priority to San Diego adopters but will consider out of the area adopters for well qualified, experienced homes.
