My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Cowboy Franky is an adorable sweet brindle boy, 1 year old and 47 pounds. He's leash trained and rides well in the car. He loves other dogs and likely good with children and cats based on his incredible temperament.

He is currently sporting  purple spray paint (compliments of his time on the streets) which will wear off eventually.

To meet Cowboy Franky in person visit us at www.dsda.org/adopt and submit our online adoption application.

* Adoption Fees:

Puppies (12 months and under) - $325

Dogs (over 12 months) - $275

Qualifications for Adoption:  No dog is alike and each dog has different requirements based on breed, age, energy level and life experiences. DSDA is very careful to place our dogs in homes that we believe are the best fit for the dog based on our experience with each dog. All of our dogs live in foster homes which allows us the opportunity to learn about their individual needs.

  • Must be home more than not.

  • Vet checks are required! All resident pets in the applicant's home MUST be spayed or neutered, core vaccines up to date and dogs on heartworm prevention to be considered! No exceptions.

  • Must be 21 years or older with identification showing present address.

  • Must have the knowledge and consent of all adults living in the household.

  • Must receive proof of pet deposit and lease allowing pets if renting.

  • Willingness and capacity to spend the time and money necessary to provide training, medical treatment and responsible care for a pet.

  • All poisonous plants must be removed from the yard.

  • DSDA is located in Dallas and requires a home visit on every adoption so only adopt to Dallas and surrounding areas.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

If you are interested in adopting one of our amazing dogs:

1. Please fill out an adoption application. We will be in touch shortly after receiving your application to review it with you.

2. If the application is approved, the adoption team will work with you and the foster to schedule a meeting. You are also welcome to attend our adoption events to meet our dogs, however, it is encouraged to email us first to ensure a particular dog will be attending the event.

3. After meeting the dog, if all parties agree the process should continue, a home visit wil be scheduled and you will be asked to have a list of supplies ready for your dog to come home.

4. If the home visit is successful, the adoption contract is signed, the adoption donation is collected, and your dog stays with you that day. During the 10-day trial period, you and your dog will decide if it is the absolute perfect fit. If it's not, you will work with the adoption coordinator to return the dog.

Adoption Fee - The adoption fee helps cover your dog's basic health needs including spay/neuter and vaccinations. Because many of our dogs come straight from the street, their medical needs are extensive. We spend an average of $500 on each pet for medical needs, training, and rehabilitation. For this reason, we kindly ask for the following minimum donations: $300 for puppies 12 months and under & $250 for adult dogs.
