My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Well hello there!!! I am Harley and I am 2.5 years old! I love to cuddle, but watch your face because I will give you all the kisses I can! I am a wiggly, goofy girl who loves to play. I like to go outside and explore on walks. I am very food and treat motivated. I am a good girl but can seem kind of shy at first, so treats are a good way to my heart (and my belly). I would love for you to take me outside and play with me and get to know me!

I am currently in a foster home! Here is what my foster mama says about me:
"I’m a sweet, goofy, laid back girl who’s looking for a home with lots of snuggly blankets where I can feel safe while I learn to be a dog again ❤️My foster family doesn’t know my story but they understand that I need a quiet, predictable environment with lots of love to help me come out of my shell. I’m about two years old so please understand I’m still learning a lot about the world, and I’m in search of a confident pack leader to help me explore everything that I’m so curious about! When I’m feeling comfortable and energetic, my young, silly personality starts to come out, and I love to jump around and play with my ball! I’ve heard that I have cat-like hops too 😏 I can easily transition from play time to chill time and I would love to nap with you. I’m a very food motivated gal who is eager to learn as long as you’re patient with me. I’m currently practicing proper manners with my foster mom and progressing well! Mom says I’m very smart and lets me solve lots of treat puzzles! When I’m happy and wanting attention I like to plop down on your lap and give kisses so be ready!

I’m cat friendly but would be best getting acclimated to a confident cat who is willing to meet me and show me the boundaries. I love to play with my toddler foster sibling, however I think I would appreciate older, more predictable children to help me adjust into a proper feeling of security and safety. I’m very dog friendly/curious and can get frustrated when I can’t meet another friend. I would love an older balanced dog to show me the ropes!

I do well in the car, and I am crate trained and do very well overnight!"

To meet Harley, an appointment needs to be scheduled if you would like to come and meet her. This will occur at the shelter during business hours. She is about 38 lbs.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The procedure for adopting one of our animals is as follows:

You walk in, either by appointment or as a walk-in, and our adoption tech will take you to meet the pets. If any of the animals interest you, you can take them out of their cages and spend time with them in a cuddle room or take a walk outside with them (for dogs). Our staff will then answer any questions you may have, explain our trial adoption process to you (explained below) and help you decide if this pet is the perfect fit for your family!

If you are adopting a dog and there is another dog in your home, we ask you to come back for an assisted meet and greet with your current pet!

You then sign our contract and staff will approve of it before asking for your ID and method of payment. Once we have all of the information we need, you can take your pet home! It's that easy!

We try to make the adoption process simple and enjoyable for you and your new pet. Please come in for a visit and give us a try!

Trial Adoption: We highly recommend our trial adoption program where you pay for the pet up front (there is no extra fee for the trial) and then take it home for about 5-7 days (we are flexible with this) to see how it fits in with your lifestyle and other pets in the home. If everything works out, great, just call us and let us know you want to finalize and that is when you receive the microchip number and medical papers as well as a goody bag! If it doesn't work out, you bring the pet back and you will receive a full refund.

Nursery Nanny Program: We also offer a nursery nanny program for our kittens! If you find one you like, you can take it home the same day even if it is not spayed/neutered yet. We ask that you bring it back for the kitten's spay/neuter date and if it needs to return for any vaccinations! We don't finalize the adoption until the kitten has been spayed/neutered and caught up on vaccines.

ADOPTION FEES: $180 for puppies under 9 months, $150 for dogs up to 5 years, $75 for senior dogs, $105 for kittens under 9 months, $95 for adult cats up to 5 years and $65 for senior cats.

Fees include: spay/neuter, microchip & registration, initial vaccines for the year, including the rabies vaccine, and flea & tick and heartworm preventatives

More about this shelter

Welcome to the Kosciusko County Animal Welfare League - reorganized, revitalized and working toward our goals.

Our Mission
All animals are welcomed into our care providing we have room. We never euthanize for space. We do everything possible to find them forever homes.

We keep pets for as long as it takes!

Working with an overflowing population of pets requires constant attention, health care and love. Our passionate staff works hard to maintain a clean, healthy facility, and to provide love while they are in our care. Every pet that we take in gets a complete wellness check. We provide microchips, vaccines, spay/neuter, and any needed health care.
