My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi. My name is Cowboy.  I may be a cur mix but I act like a beagle too.  I am seven years old and I weigh about forty pounds.  I think the pictures make me look bigger than I am.  I was surrendered to the rescue when my family was moving away and said they couldn't take me with them.  I just don't understand that and was very confused at first.  Now, I am over them and ready to move on with my life.

I am a scaredy cat, playful and loyal to my family.  I talk a lot if someone comes around I don't know and I can sound quite fierce.  Actually I am a big chicken and will stand behind you or run to my crate, please don't tell anyone.  I love toys, lots of them.  I have always lived in a home with a fenced yard. I went to training classes and know all my basic obedience and how to walk with a harness on a leash. I like walks. I came to the rescue with two problems we have been working on, first I love food and treats.  I should weigh about fourty pounds but it's hard for me to hold that weight because I will eat anything you give me! So they are watching how much food I eat and I am trying to get more exercise, did I say I love food and treats?  Second I tested positive for a tick borne illness called Ehlrlicha so I have been treated for that.  I will always test positive, but I have no symptoms and it's not causing me any problems now.  Just saying so you know. I like other dogs and would be happy in a home with a playmate or just you.  I don't bother cats so they are fine too. I am going to match the energy level of your home, busy or chill is just fine. I am housetrained.

I have been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated (including influenza) and tested negative for heartworms. My adoption fee is 150.00.  If you are interested in adopting me please go to dogsasfamily.org and fill out an adoption application for me, Cowboy.  I could protect you and be your friend if you can do the same for me.

More about this rescue

After years of experience volunteering with other rescues I have chosen to have a small rescue that I can directly help unwanted dogs. There are so many mixed breeds that need homes I am not breed specific. I try to stop and pick up the strays or unwanted dogs no matter what there condition is and rehabilitate those that need it and completely vet everyone, then rehome no matter how long that takes. Everything I do is for the dogs because I beleive there is a home for them if you are just patient and take the time to work with each dog.
