Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Shelby is an adorable 3-yr-old female beagle with the classic tricolor coat, and the usual independent spirit of a scent hound. She loves to explore the yard to sniff the grass and observe the birds, then comes inside via the dog door to perform the mandatory check of the kitchen floor for crumbs that need to be cleared. Next she will collect her toys and completely surround herself with them, crawling into her own dog bed or joining her human and doggie friends for a nap on the sofa. She enjoys attention but is also perfectly capable of entertaining herself.
Shelby is very loving, and friendly with humans and dogs (not tested with cats), and is generally quiet and well behaved unless the doorbell rings, which turns her into a temporary alarm system! She loves hanging out in the home office while her foster mom is working there, and the only real disturbance is her occasional snoring!
As any typical beagle, she loves her treats and her kibble, but does not jump up on the person who is providing them. Shelby did not come to our organization because of behavior issues, but because her human experienced financial concerns and had to find new homes for herself and her dogs. She had not been able to provide the dogs with preventatives, so sweet Shelby tested positive for heartworms, but it is a light case so we will provide her future adopter with a one year supply of preventatives, employing the "slow kill" method ot curing her, which means she will not have to suffer through a difficult treatment and recovery, fortunately.
If you are familiar with the beagle breed, you have possibly learned that the age of 3 years is an ideal time to take in a new pet. In case you would like to be considered for adopting dear Shelby , the first step is to complete our application to adopt, which can be found within our website at www.HoustonBeagleRescue.org. After you have submitted it, our secretary will contact you with info on the next step, Thanks you for visiting our website.
If you would consider fostering Shelby or another homeless beagle, please complete our application to become a foster parent. It is a very rewarding experience.
