This is Vicki, a Chihuahua/spaniel mix, at least we think so. She’s had a rough life for quite some time. After her rescue, it took her a week to decompress and show any interest in us.
She’s a quiet girl, only barking when appropriate. She’s good with my husband and has met some other members of the family on a visit. But she was happy to go back to her crate. It’s her safe place and really needs that “den feeling.” She sleeps all night in the crate. If we leave the house she is crated.
Her fur is very soft and though a little head shy, she enjoys the pets and scratches behind her ears. She does fine on leash in the house and out in the backyard to go potty. Also enjoys a short walk, but fearful of a lot of activity and loud noises, so she needs a secure halter.
She does well kept on a potty schedule and I tether her to me or a door knob when preparing her food. She will have accidents otherwise when I’m distracted.
She absolutely loves to sit in our laps now any chance she gets and has no interest in toys.
Due to the history of where she came from, she won’t be the dog that will run up to you when you meet her. In reality it will take time for her to adjust to your home and you, like she has here. She will need a home with patient people who will work on gaining her trust and socialization. She’s a loving companion once she feels you can be trusted.
If you are interested in Vicki, fill out an adoption application.
