My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

At nearly 78 lbs, Orion is a big boy with an even bigger heart. He is dog social, well trained, and mature. Adopting a 6 year old pup like Orion comes with many benefits - his temperament is well developed, so you will get to skip the demanding puppy phase. Orion is already house trained and has shown staff & volunteers just how patient he is when getting in and out of the kennel.

Orion is not just dog friendly but he actually has a doggy roommate at AAC. He thrives on interactions with people and dogs alike, so he is definitely compatible to live in a home with a resident dog already. To ensure compatibility, we will host a doggy meet up with your pup and our staff.

Long walks, new places and adventures are calling Orion. Can you provide this gorgeous Black Mouth Cur a stable and loving home?

Additional adoption info

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

Go meet their pets

The Austin Animal Center is open for adoptions every day from 11:00am to 7:00pm. We're closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving Day to give our staff some time with family.
Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.

More about this shelter

Austin Animal Center is the largest open-intake animal shelter in central Texas and we work very hard to try to save 90% or more of the thousands of animals we shelter every year. We always need volunteers and both monetary and in-kind donations to help us in our sheltering and prevention activities. Visit our website to find out how you can help!
