❤️ DEAF BUT HEALTHY ❤️

Jackson is a beautiful young DEAF Aussie-Rough Coat Collie mix who needs a home with a breed experience and patience/compassion for working with a deaf dog.

Jackson has an otherwise-typical Australian Shepherd energy level of 7 to 8 until he settles down for naps and bedtime. He is a happy and smart boy!

Jackson loves to be outside, to play fetch, play with any kind of toy, and always has a bone to chew on. He also loves to go on walks, play in water, and have play dates with our neighbor dog.

When walking Jack around the neighborhood we are constantly told just how handsome he is. He has not been crated with us, but learned to use a doggy door in 1 day and is potty trained. We are able to leave him in the house when we go to work.

Jack does still get excited when his humans get home and still tends to jump up - this will be easily remedied with consistency and training. Recently we have seen some anxiety when we leave the house, and he will bark as we leave and try to go out the door with us but he doesn’t continue to bark long once he knows we are gone.

Jack is deaf but he’s not from a double-merle litter; his littermates were all normal only Jackson is deaf. He does have some typical herding/nudging tendencies as expected but is very eager to please and responds well to training.

We think a great home for him would be one with outdoor space and plenty of exercise time. Also someone who has experience with deaf dogs or someone that has time to learn and train him would be amazing.

Jackson has done well with our children, one of whom is a 4 year old girl that likes to give lots of hugs and no personal space
We do not have other dogs but he does well when he encounters them, I think he really craves playmates. We do not have super long work hours, but are gone everyday during the week. Having other dogs home with him while owners are at work would be ideal.

Sweet Jack was dumped with his sisters on a farm nearby and we wanted to take him in. After about a month with us we realized he is completely deaf, and although we have tried some professional training we think that someone who has more time to dedicate to this special kind of training would be best for him.

From Jack’s Foster Mom:

“Jackson loves a bed he can jump up and off fast..lol

He adores men; I had to get my car rim replaced at discount tire and he just loved the attention from them. He was like 'what's this? whats that?' His head was swirling he was beaming from attention of all the men!

He wanted my bacon and egg taco... he loves his food, anyone's food, so he will be good to train with treat motivation

He is good with kids, but I recommend older ones, cats and other dogs..

Jack LOVES toys; as soon as I got him home
he pulled out all the dog toys from our toy box!

His tail is gorgeous, it's so fluffy and pretty!

He is ready for the right Forever Home, there's no need to keep him in my home as a foster because he's quick to learn and should get to begin again in his forever-environment.

He has only had one accident inside, he's always waited to go outside - even throughout the night in a new place he's been perfectly potty-trained.

The main thing to know is he won’t like the crate at first, it takes some tricks to get him in but after a few days we got it down. His original owners didn’t crate him but we hope to find a home where someone is home more than gone with time to train him more.

He just loves being on the bed, lol, like he is the King and the bed is his Kingdom!

He loves playing fetch and tug of war. Jack just loves to play, cuddle, be silly and is a loving good boy!

Go meet their pets

We do not have a shelter - we accept online applications and either have individuals meet at foster homes or we will bring dogs to a safe, fenced neutral area - depends on situation.

More about this rescue

I am the Executive Director - I started DASH with a select group of co-rescuing friends and neighbors because we saw a need to rescue very adoptable dogs from Death Rows at municipal shelters and believe through foster care we can work with and train these dogs to be ideal family pets.
