My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Are you tired of that single life? Do you miss the pitter patter of little feet following your every move? Do you long to have someone's face pressed against the door while you shower? Do you hate having privacy when you go to the restroom? Look no further!

Cherry is a 3 year old Basset Hound looking for her forever family. Her hobbies include  toting around her stuffies, taking naps right where you need to walk, and eating cheese. She is housebroken, crate trained, knows basic commands, walks nicely on a leash, and is great with other dogs. The cats have given her a zero star review because she enjoys singing the song of her people to them.

Cherry was nearly shut down when she arrived here but has made great strides. She will need continued assistance and patience to help her grow more confident.  She is still very uneasy with being touched unexpectedly, so young children would be terrifying for her.

Cherry is currently with a trainer who has graciously offered complimentary phone consults with her new family as part of her commitment to helping her live her best life.

Additional adoption info

]The Adoption Process:

1. First, please complete our adoption application.

2. Upon receipt of your application, we will call your vet(s) to ensure your current pets are up-to-date on annual vaccines, have been spayed/neutered, and are on heartworm preventative. We will also contact your landlord, if applicable.

3. Once we've confirmed vet records, our volunteers will contact you for a phone interview and home visit.

4. After approval, our adoption coordinator will contact you to discuss the available Bassets that best match your lifestyle and are most suitable for your home. Not every Basset will be the right one. Our foster families assess each Basset for particular traits and dislikes.

Before adoption, each Basset will be spayed/neutered and will receive all necessary vaccinations, treatments (e.g., heartworm, dental, deworming, etc.), and medications.

More about this rescue

Established in 2007, Basset Buddies Rescue of Texas is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization
staffed solely by volunteers devoted to the rescue of unwanted, abused, and homeless
Bassets in Houston, TX, and surrounding regions.

RESCUE. We take in Bassets from shelters or directly from owners who are
unable or unwilling to care for them. We do not discriminate based solely on the
dog's age, condition, or medical needs.

REHABILITATE. Before adoption, we place the Bassets in loving foster homes where
they are evaluated for temperament and behavior. We also update all vaccinations,
insert microchips, address all medical conditions, and spay/neuter all unaltered hounds. Most of our Bassets need heartworm treatment, as well. Despite the time and expense, we are committed to providing the most appropriate and humane treatment for every Basset in our care.

REHOME. We work hard to place each Basset with the right forever family. After you complete an application, we will call your vet to ensure all past and present pets are current on preventatives and vaccinations, chat with you via phone, and conduct a home visit—all to match you with the best hound for your home and lifestyle.

We're very proud of the work we do for people and dogs in Houston and surrounding areas.
