My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Have you ever wanted a real live stuffed animal? One that you can squeeze and cuddle whenever you want? One that promises to snuggle in and keep you warm at night? My name is AXEL, and I am a 100% certified lovebug. My foster mommy calls me her very own Squishmallow. Every time she walks by me, she has to stop and give me a big hug and smooch. I absolutely adore the attention and will respond with sweet kisses. Knowing what a sweet guy I am, she can hardly believe my story. I was dumped in front of a county animal shelter in southern Indiana on a cold, damp Sunday in November of 2023. I was so lucky that a volunteer found me. The shelter is not open on Sundays and I could have spent the day and night freezing in the wire crate in which I was left. I was so distraught! The shelter workers quickly realized what a dear, sweet boy I am. They helped me find a wonderful family to adopt. There was even a furless three year old that I loved and adored. All of our hearts were broken when the preschooler became severely allergic and I had to return to the shelter. When Rover Rescue heard how wonderful I am, they couldn’t wait to bring me up north. My foster family says that I have exceeded all their expectations. I really stumped the vet on my recent visit. She really has no clue what breed I am, other than stinking adorable. The best guess is possibly a Boxer/ Bulldog mix around 2 years old?!? I am very well rounded, literally and physically! I currently weigh 78 pounds. My ideal weight is around 65 pounds. It is just so hard to not give me yummies because I am so cute (especially my ears) and I take them so nicely. I do need to have treats and kibble that is poultry free. I was showing signs of allergies, but my licking has greatly diminished now that I am on a salmon diet. I am a good natured companion with the two legged and the four legged canines in the house. I really have not met a stranger as everyone is my best friend. My foster family does not have cats so they can not testify how well I do with kitties. I will romp and play with the two other fosters in the house, but then will take a well-deserved nap. I will gladly let you join me! I will even let you share the bed in the master bedroom with me. I have not spent much time in a crate as I have been accident free and not in the least bit destructive. My only vice is that I am very interested in what my humans are eating. Unfortunately for me, people food is off limits so I am doing better about not begging. I love to be pampered and was a willing participant for my spa treatment. My foster mom couldn’t believe that I walked right into the shower so I could get washed. There is nothing better than a good rub down. I enjoy car rides and am a very respectful passenger. If you are looking for a live plush toy to fill your heart with love and affection, you have to meet me, AXEL. Call my foster mommy, Darla, at 630/406-9405 so she can tell you all about me. She will have some questions for you also. The adoption fee for AXEL is $225.
