My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sir Cromwell's backstory:
We were contacted by an animal control facility we partner with, asking us to help this dear boy get out of the facility safely. He had been neglected for quite some time, and he arrived underweight and heavily matted. He had an eye infection that needed immediate attention. He needed to be neutered as well as have a dental. He has spent several weeks recuperating, and we were able to get him all of the attention and procedures he needed. He is ready for his second chance at life!

Breed and Hair Notes:
Cromwell has hair that grows and not fur. He is a stunning blend of Poodle... and we are not certain what else! He is one-of-a-kind and very special. He is agreeable to baths at home, and he is very well-behaved at the professional groomer. They love him there! He is grateful to be taken care of after years of neglect. PLEASE NOTE: his hair will grow indefinitely, and he will need professional grooming every 4-6 weeks. Only apply if you understand the additional maintenance and cost that these dear hair-not-fur souls need and are willing to commit to life for such care.

Get to Know Sir Cromwell:
Cromwell is approximately 6-8 years old and about 17-18 pounds. This is an estimate from two veterinarians who have examined him, though his age is a guesstimate. He is currently being taught to go potty outside on walks by his foster family, and he's catching on very well.

Cromwell's previous life did not consist of much exercise or movement, and he is making up for it! Despite years of neglect, he now LOVES going outside and going for walks! He is exuberant about it daily. He has bone spurs on his spine due to something happening to him in his previous life. The X-rays show where they are located. With daily exercise and glucosamine supplements, he's doing very well and ready to gain some more strength!

Cromwell is currently taking Vetmedin and Furosemide for congestive heart failure. He has a grade 2 heart murmur, according to the doctor who did his dental and got to know him well. He will need to be on this medication for the rest of his life. Thankfully, Vetmedin is a miracle drug, and it gives quality of life and time in dogs with a murmur. Cromwell also has dry eye and needs daily drops for it.

Cromwell is described as a very happy and loving boy. He attaches quickly to people who show him love and respect. The foster family has a granddaughter who visits often, and they love each other very much. He would fit well in a family where the children are very experienced around animals and understand how to respect them.

Cromwell loves to follow the sun every morning and take his post breakfast naps in the sunlight streaming through the windows. Cromwell loves to be cuddled and fall asleep in someone's arms.

Ideal Home:
Cromwell is a pretty laid back guy, though he has an excitement for life! He loves to play but is always ready to cuddle afterward. A quiet and calm home is ideal, not one that has a lot of people coming and going in it.

If you expect to put Cromwell in a crate at all during the day or night, please do not apply. He will flourish in a home where he can hang out with his people during the day and sleep near them at night. He's been neglected for many years. We want him to have a family that will be there for him as much as possible. Ideally, his people should work from home or be retired.

Cromwell can successfully be in a home where he is the only dog, though he lives in a foster home with two cats. We all believe he'd love a dog brother or sister, though! He currently has another foster brother, and they are doing well together. He tends to prefer quieter, calmer dogs. Puppies and large, high energy dogs are not a good idea for him as they make him a bit nervous.

Cromwell is gentle saint who has seen and been through an awful lot in his short time so far here on this earth. We look forward to meeting the family who will make up for the time he spent being neglected. We want nothing more than to see him in a home where he is loved for who he is and doted upon 24/7! Will it be you? Let's find out! Please apply on our website, animalsaints.org
