My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Wilma is a lovely special girl who was rescued from a poor situation.

She is a 2-year-old, 65-ish pound, gray girl and bouncy as all young weimaraners are.

Wilma thrives on attention and is a typical velcro weimaraner, wanting to be close to her family always, and striving to please them.

Wilma is highly intelligent and has learned to sit, wait, lay down and walk on a leash.

She picks up cues from her family, and will adapt her needs to yours. Strong guidelines are encouraged.

Wilma has been crated. She is not happy being left alone, and is still learning that her family comes back.

Playtime and quiet times have been scheduled, and she does well with “bonetime” as a means of settling down.

Wilma has not been recall trained yet, and needs extensive time on leash and in fenced yards before that can happen.

She definitely has a prey drive for small animals. I would not trust her with a cat.

She gets along well with dogs her size and larger, but needs to be reminded that not all dogs play as intently or for as long as she does.  She would do better as an only dog and with someone that is home with her frequently.

A great match for Wilma would be with a retired couple or family who has the desire and time to commit to her continued training, especially if they already have a weimaraner to continue her training and socialization.

More about this rescue

WEIMARANER RESCUE of North Texas, Inc. is an all-volunteer 501-C-3, non-profit, charitable organization.

Since 1989, our small group of volunteers has saved over 1,600 Weimaraners from suffering and death. We exist solely on donations and fund raising efforts. Every penny of our proceeds pay for veterinary care, food, boarding and essential expenses. WRNT began as the Rescue Committee of the Lone Star Weimaraner Club, Inc. (formerly North Texas Weimaraner Club). In 1997 WRNT incorporated and was granted 501-C-3 status by the I.R.S., enabling tax deductible donations to our rescue fund.

OUR MISSION is the rescue, rehabilitation and placement of Weimaraners from animal shelters, found stray, abandoned, neglected and abused. We educate the public on responsible pet ownership, and promote spay/neuter. We are dedicated to end the tragedy of pet over-population by opposing puppy mills, pet stores selling live animals, and irresponsible over-breeding of companion animals.
