My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

A5609448 River is like a mini Dane, so cute and smaller than the norm for the breed. We think he has some Labrador Retriever in his family tree. He is nervous at the shelter and needs a loving home to settle into. With slow introductions, he gradually gets comfortable with new people. As he feels safe and settles in, his confidence will grow with encouragement and patience. In the kennel environment he does not show well and barks to warn people away, so he needs someone to see past that understandable behavior and give him a chance.

-1 year old Great Dane Labrador Retriever mix

-Beautiful black coat

-Neutered Male now weighs 81 lbs, came in very underweight at 67 pounds so he’s getting healthier

-Came to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center on February 21st as an owner surrender

-Takes treats gently so will do well with positive reinforcement training

-We think he knows sit but he’s a young boy and needs additional training

-A group training class might help build his confidence and teach him basic skills

-Needs more practice on the leash

-Reactive to dogs and selective/timid so the shelter recommends he be the only dog though as he grows more confident he is likely to do okay with proper intros
