My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Roland is a happy guy! He loves to explore his surroundings and keep that nose to the ground. He seems to be more into toys than treats, but the concept of bringing the toy back doesn't always click. He's ready for adventure!

Volunteers say "Roland is a fun loving, bold, and cuddly guy. He warmed up immediately and hopped in my car without hesitation. We walked around my block, hung out at home, got a pup cup, and watched my daughter's lacrosse game at Cosmo park together. He really enjoyed playing tug and being a lap dog. He was uninterested in his pup cup but liked dog treats. I could see him being a great companion for any active person who wants a friend. He is an affectionate, silly, and opinionated dog who was a pleasure to be around."

"I took Roland to go get a pup cup, he was GREAT in the car, very calm, didn't even want to stick his head out the window. Then we went to the campus of Mizzou and walked around. He was pretty strong on the leash, I would maybe recommend a harness instead of a collar. He was very friendly and wanted to greet everyone on the walk. When he would great people he wanted to jump and lick, very kind but he would get very excited very quickly and would need a few minutes to chill out."

"Roland and I went to play fetch and hang out at a park, and then went back to my house to hang out with my roommates and play some more in the yard. Roland was very excited and had a lot of energy, he loved to run around and play fetch, he would definitely be well suited for someone with an active lifestyle and a good size yard. He is also very sweet and loved to be meet new people, so a social person would also be a good fit."

"Roland and I got a pup cup, explored Stephens trail, and went shopping at Lowe's. He also got to run in a fenced in back yard. I don't think he had any issues besides wanting to play with dogs we passed. He was really such a good boy, he could do a sit command and would come when you called for him. We weren't around any kids but I can't think of any problems he would have with any families! He was also very well behaved when passing other dogs and people while we walked."

More about this shelter

Welcome to CMHS! In continuous operation since 1943, the Central Missouri Humane Society promotes the well-being of companion animals – pets that enrich the lives of the people who love them.

The Columbia Humane Society was formed in 1943 to provide shelter and care for Columbia’s abandoned animals. Originating in a little structure on Creasy Springs Road, the organization has grown into today’s Central Missouri Humane Society, a regional animal welfare agency caring for thousands of animals annually and providing veterinary services for low-income pet owners.
