My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Thank you for your interest in dog who needs a new home.  Adoption can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in your life and especially in the life of your new canine companion.

A note to those looking at CPR.  We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone.  Our job is to find those someone's.  Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog.  They come to us because they want to give a dog a home.  We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture.  While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face.  Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home.  We want to create furever families.

Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today.  We'll update as more information is known.

Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days?  If so please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete the application.  You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side.  You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available.

Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes?  Please drop a note to applications@carolinapoodlerescue.org with your name, address and phone # and email.  We'll add you to our mailing list.

thanks

NOT IN VP

Date into Rescue: 2/8/2024
Reason for being in rescue: Ella is in a unique situation with her owner. She is being rehomed through our rescue program while still in the home with her owner. Her owner is going to college in August and must find somewhere for Ella to be safe by then.
Foster location: Henderson, NC
Special Needs? Yes, Ella is special in the aspect that she cannot be placed in a home with children. Adults only for this girl, please!
Weight: 70 lb
Height: 21in
Spayed/Neutered: Yes

Adoption Fee: $599

Fence needed? Yes, Ella requires a physically fenced-in yard of 4 feet or higher.

What kind of home would be best for me? Ella is looking for a home to give her exactly what she already has. A dog or two in the home is just fine for her, her current companions are large, and she prefers those over small animals. Ella is the fun police with young active dogs, she prefers calm adult dogs. She simply tells the young dogs to slow their roll!  Ella is looking for a home with no children, she enjoys chasing children and anything that is prey-like. She only does this when she is off leash. Ella can go to parks on a leash and not even bat an eye on children running. She is happy to accept pets from children and is gentle with them as long as they are not running around being children. Ella will nip when engaged in this game of chase. It is up to you as Ella's owner to not put her in off-leash situations. Ella would be best suited for middle-aged people who don't have frequent young visitors. Ella could hang in a room or a crate when children visit if you only expect young visitors once or twice every year. Ella's best home would take her to the lake or the beach from time to time, she is a water dog and loves to dip her legs in the water! Ella truly is an angel of a dog; she is gentle and sweet with humans. She is experienced with living in a home and if you are looking for an easy-going companion then Ella is your girl. Ella may be a bit unique but she is a doll baby in temperament.

What is my personality like? Ella does have an unknown history in the first two years of life. Her owner rescued her from a breeder situation and notes that Ella has come a long way, she wasn't sure how to be a dog at first. Now she knows how to be a dog, Ella is confident in everyday life. She enjoys going for casual walks 2-3 times a week. Her owner uses a weighted backpack suited to Ella to help her get her extra energy out. Going on walks is one of Ella's favorite pastimes, she loves to be out exploring with her nose.  Ella spends most of her days at home, she can be left loose when someone is away. Ella goes into her crate on command, she doesn't mind being closed in. Ella knows commands such as sit and down and could learn more. Ella loves to be with her owner and is often a shadow to him. She seems to bond more quickly to men which makes sense as her primary owner has always been a man. She goes up to women and accepts their love but tends to listen and respect men more. Based on our experience meeting Ella we do believe she doesn't mind who her handler is as long as she gets lots of love from her new owner! Ella is an easy-going gentle dog who just has a special quirk here or there. Her owner hopes to find someone who adores her just as much as he does.

How do I act when I first meet new people? Passive, Ella is very nonchalant. She is calm and steady.

Other tips and tidbits: (3/27/2017 est.)

House trained? Ella is house trained in her current home.

Dogs can be house-trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house-trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Please note - we do not ship dogs.  If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip.  Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina.

To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application.

Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home.   You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc.  Others here may be a better fit for you.  It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description.  Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a  dog not in our listings yet.  We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you.

Thank you for considering CPR.
