My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Is your idea of the perfect man calm, gentle, well mannered, loving and oh so handsome?! If it is, then Rex might be the man of your dreams!

Dashing boy Rex is an 8 year old pit mix that was found as a stray and brought into an open intake shelter in Philadelphia. He came already neutered and microchipped, and it didn't take the shelter long to realize that Rex came from another facility. Because of his manners, the shelter staff could tell that Rex was well loved and cared for, and that he definitely came from a home. Unfortunately, the microchip was unregistered and the shelter that implanted it is all the way in Florida, so Rex was out of luck. The upside was that the shelter was able to ascertain where Rex came from, his birthday, and his name (which he responds to).

Rex was timestamped to be euthanized at the shelter when Zoe's House decided to take him in to save him. Rex thrives outside of a kennel and is a wonderful houseguest. He spends his days lying peacefully in his bed, and wanting to be at the feet of his people. He loves antlers and chew toys, and would be the perfect movie watching buddy (as long as you share the popcorn).

Rex is the complete package and knows every command! He is extremely housebroken and will not have an accident in the house, and will show you all of his tricks for a treat. Rex knows sit, down, come, speak, wait and possibly more.

He gets along with other medium to large dogs, but due to his prey drive Rex would do best in a home without cats or other small animals. Rex is a seasoned guy that would do great in any family. He could do well with kids but we're suggesting 6 and older as sometimes he gets excited and may knock a little one over. He would be just as happy sharing his golden years in retirement with a human counterpart.

Rex is a lounge around and sunbathe kind of man. But, he could also be open to long walks on the beach as long as it's with you! If he seems like he could be the right match for you, apply for him today at zoeshouserescue.com

More about this rescue

Who We Are:
Zoe's House, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit animal welfare group based out of Sinking Spring,PA. We are comprised solely of volunteers that generously volunteer their time, their homes and their hearts. We are dedicated to rescuing homeless, neglected or abandoned animals from high kill shelters or from owners who can no longer care for them. We provide the animals with loving foster care, veterinary treatment and rehabilitation until we are able to pair them with compatible and loving forever homes. At times we also offer permanent sanctuary to those with special or medical needs and that are considered unadoptable.

Zoe's House serves as a resource to our community and to our adopters by providing education and information on responsible pet ownership, the importance of spay/neuter, behavior training, nutrition, puppy mill awareness, heartworm preventative and breed education. Our organization also networks with other shelters and rescues. We try to assist other organizations when possible.

Zoe’s House is not federally funded, and relies solely on donations to continue to rescue. Although we are not breed specific, the need to save Dobermans, Rottweilers, German Shepherds and Pitbulls is ever growing; therefore, we have focused primarily on saving the lives of our beloved and majestic strong breeds.

What We do:
There are many people involved in the rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing of each dog we take in. Our rescue effort starts with the initial intake request for a dog. Whether this be at a shelter of from an individual in the community, we try to gather as much information as we can. We then pickup or transport the dog to safety in rescue. At this time we administer immediate veterinary care to determine the health of the dog and ensure the animal has proper immunizations. We also have bloodwork done for a heartworm check, lyme, fecal and sometimes a blood panel depending on the age and health of the dog. The dog remains in "in-home" foster care and becomes a part of the fosters family for an undefined period of time. We evaluate the dog and work on basic manners and obedience. At times we have dogs for a longer duration due to health and/or age. The dogs in our care come with us to adoption events, home screenings, and ultimately permanent placement. Zoe's House then provides post-adoption follow-up and support and welcomes the new family to the "Zoe's House Family!" We strive to stay in close contact with all of our adopters to ensure the transition and life long relationship continues to be magical. We remain dedicated to the principal that we never want one of our rescues to end up in a shelter or in a home that does not provide a responsible and loving environment for the life of the animal.

We truly believe that one dog at a time... we are making a difference!
