My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Australian Cattle Dog-Kelpie Mix

Spayed Female

1 year, 32 pounds

Miss Pepper is all grown up now and back in our adoption program. She did great in her most recent home, except she would not stop herding the cat, so we’re seeking a feline-free environment this time around.

She’s a spayed female Australian cattle dog, possibly kelpie, mix. Pepper is content at home, but loves to run and go for walks. She’s the perfect size at 32 lbs., and one year of age.

Likes: Tummy rubs, giving kisses, watching wildlife and her favorite ball

Dislikes: The vacuum cleaner, loud noises and being in a kennel

Pepper is house trained and knows a handful of commands, but she might benefit from additional obedience and socialization, especially if she could find a similarly sized playmate to help burn her energy.

She’s currently being boarded, so ideally, we’d like to find a home willing to foster her prior to adoption. We are willing to discount her adoption fee if we can find the right permanent home, one that will exercise her and keep her brain occupied. Pepper is shy at first, but once she knows you, she will bond quickly and want to cuddle.

Adoption form available at nebraskanokill.org.  Suggested adoption donation: $300.00

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

All prospective adopters contact the group via our website and are required to fill out an adoption form. Volunteers check references and do a home visit. A "meet and greet" is arranged if other family members or pets are involved.
Adoption fees are generally $250.00 for dogs 6 months to 7 years; $150.00 for dogs over 7 years. If a puppy is adopted, the adoption fee is $450.00, but $200 of that is refunded once we have documentation that the animal has been altered. All adult dogs are altered, current on vaccinations, microchipped and tested for heartworm. If the adoption does not work out, NNCKR requires that the dog be returned to us.

Go meet their pets

We take advantage of local events sponsored by businesses such as PetSmart, PetCo, Subaru, Verizon and Tractor Supply Company, as well as local fund raisers put on by rescue groups. We are also happy to arrange meet and greets with people who would like to see a dog they saw on our website or at an adoption event.

More about this rescue

Nebraska No Kill Canine Rescue (NNKCR) was formed by five people who had a dream that one day all adoptable dogs in Lancaster County would find loving homes.

To accomplish this, we do three things:
Rescue dogs
Rehabilitate dogs
Re-home dogs

NNKCR is a 501(c)(3) Not-For-Profit dog rescue group. We provide emergency foster care for homeless dogs, veterinary care for dogs in our care and find forever homes for homeless dogs. NNKCR is an all-volunteer organization, and 100% of all funds donated go toward our rescue efforts and the dogs in our care.
