My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Taffyta and Sam are looking for a new barn home! Taffyta is a young male while Sam is a 2 year old female who have both been assessed at semi-feral. Semi-feral cats are cats who do not allow being touched and possibly never will allow touching. They would prefer living in an outdoor environment with access to an indoor space where food and water would be kept. They will need at least 6 weeks of confinement in a secure enclosure, such as a shed, before they can be let outside to start exploring the property.

If you are interested in adopting Taffyta and Sam to be working cats on your property, stop by the shelter any day during adoption hours. If you have not submitted a barn cat application previously, you will need to fill one out when you arrive. All adoptions are first come, first serve.

*Barn cats require a secure indoor enclosure where they can be kept confined. After they are able to have outdoor access, they should continue to have access to this safe indoor space for protection from weather and predators. The indoor space could be a shed, garage, workshop, barn, etc. but should have four walls and a roof and be able to be entered by the caretakers in order to feed the cat and clean the litter box. Barn cat caretakers should expect to provide access to a litter box even after the cat is able to go outdoors, will need to feed the cat and provide fresh water daily, and will need to provide routine vaccines and medical care if the cat becomes sick or injured.*

Adoptions are held Wednesday - Monday from 12:00PM to 4:00PM. Our adoption process is an in-person, first-come, first serve system.

More about this shelter

Kitsap Humane Society is a private, nonprofit animal shelter. We rescue and rehome over 6000 pets each year. Every dog or cat leaves our shelter spayed or neutered and with complete vaccines and a microchip. We have been caring for animals in need since 1908 and envision a time when all adoptable pets have loving homes.

We are extremely proud of our exceptionally high “lives saved” rate of over 96%. Through our active adoption, behavior, foster, transfer, and veterinary programs, we are able to rehome every adoptable animal that enters our facility. No animal is ever euthanized for lack of space.

In addition to caring for and adopting animals, we also provide spay/neuter services to low income residents of Kitsap County, and provide Animal Rescue and Enforcement services to our surrounding municipalities.
