We adopted Sirius in March of 2023 to serve as a companion and be trained to be a service animal for my disabled teen. Things were progressing, if slowly, before we were forced to move suddenly in December.
Since then he has developed extreme anxiety, and we have exhausted all resources that we have access to. This manifests in several different ways, but one of the biggest is he refuses to eat or drink unless my kid is in his line of sight. In addition, if they leave him alone for more than 30 seconds he starts barking and whining - this includes for middle of the night bathroom breaks.
He's non-reactive with cats - curious, at most. We don't have any experience with him and dogs in "his space" like we do with cats, but out in the open on the street, other dogs and people are a passing curiosity. In his space, however, his anxiety manifests in almost constant barking and/or movement. He's not aggressive - his barking will be accompanied by his retreating wherever he can hide.
