Angelo sadly lost the only human he has ever known and was so fearful at the shelter.

When Angelo first came into his foster home he bonded with his foster mom right away. Although he prefers females, he has learned to accept his foster dad and even goes to him for pets and scratches now. Just understand that you will need to be very patient. He has learned to get along with small (mellow) dogs but he would be happiest being the only dog in the home.

As a loving and loyal companion, Angelo may develop a bit of possessiveness once he forms a strong bond with his person. He will bark at any stranger in an attempt to protect his person. With proper discipline, patience and respect for his boundaries, he will learn to trust and will stop barking once he feels comfortable. It may take some time but it will happen.

Angelo does not use a doggie door but is potty pad trained when no one is home to let him out. He loves car rides and going for walks though he does not do well in social situations. Too many people make him nervous and scared.   Also, he has a very thick coat that will need periodic grooming.

This senior guy just wants someone to love him with as much love as he has to give.

To potentially meet him, please fill out an application online.

More about this rescue

Arizona Small Dog Rescue is a non profit registered 501(c)3 no kill rescue shelter. We are a group of volunteers who have dedicated our lives to rescuing and saving homeless, unwanted, abandoned, neglected, and abused small dogs. We save most of our animals from kill shelters around the valley, but also accept owner surrenders and stray surrenders. Owner surrender fee’s vary depending on space and availability. We spay/neuter, vaccinate, medically examine, microchip, and evaluate and/or socialize all dogs that come into our rescue before placing up for adoption to pre-screened homes. We rescue many dogs every week and always have a wide variety of personalities and breeds available who would be a perfect fit for any family and any home.
