My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Memphis recently went on a Dog Day Out and here's what his DDO buddy had to say!

"I enjoyed a #dogsdayout with Memphis, a playful pup seeking adoption at Guilford County Animal Services. He was excited to go out for an adventure, but sat nicely in the car. We went for a nice long walk at Gibson Park. He loved sniffing around. He was a champ during his the bath at All Pets Considered. He enjoyed many yummy treats afterward (and during). Memphis is affectionate and interactive, but he is still learning about new experiences. For example, he was a bit scared of bicycles on the trail, so he tucked himself behind my legs the first few times he saw them. He walks well on leash away from the shelter. Memphis is 2 years old, 56 pounds, and HW negative."

2nd DDO:
"Memphis

Summary: fantastic companion dog: easy on leash, gentle taking treats, rides well in car, sweet but not a Velcro dog. Needs some training to learn the basics. Will give the alert when someone comes near his turf. Interested in other dogs but doesn't seem aggressive unless overstimulated. I would say he's not safe with cats.

Please read to the end because Memphis is two dogs in one.

Memphis has loads of things you can't teach easily: He is sweet, calm and friendly. He walked great on leash even right out of the kennel (and that says a lot!!). He is soooo gentle taking treats. He rides great in the car. He hopped right in, let me secure him for safety and immediately settled down. He does play a little tug with a toy if you want but needs some confidence so he doesn't drop the rope too soon. He quickly adopted our Sniffspot (ruff Ruff Peacwful Retreat) and alerted me when the neighbor walked past the fence. If you're looking for an alarm dog Memphis has got your back! He is sweet and friendly but doesn't need to attach himself to you like Velcro.

We went for a walk and at this point he was very, very interested in other dogs and didn't seem aggressive.

I had lunch at Bad Daddy's Burger Bar in Wendover with a friend and Memphis laid calmly at my feet, oh so gently taking the little tidbits of cheese I offered him. One of the other diners didn't even realize he was there until we got up to leave! He was also a delight at Sweet Frog Premium Frozen Yogurt where he had his pup cup then waited patiently for me to finish my human cup.

Then we went for a bath at All Pets Considered. He tolerated it well but I think the bath was too stimulating because he was a different dog afterwards. He did zoomies, lots of play bows, was more likely to pull on the leash and did a funny "this way, that way maneuver. He was noticeably "up when we got back to the shelter.

Memphis' perfect adopter would be someone who is easy going and can transfer their calm energy to him to help him settle after an exciting event.

Memphis is available at Guilford County Animal Services every day except Tuesday from 12-4. He gets a little stressed in the kennels (you'll understand once you experience how loud and chaotic it can be in there) so please ask your adoption ambassador to pull him out and meet him in the play yard after some zoomies so you can see The Real Memphis. Just look at dat sweet face!!"

As always, we strongly recommend bringing any resident dogs to the shelter for a meet and greet with potential new family members to be sure it's a good match. If bringing a dog for a meet and greet, please bring proof of up to date rabies, bordetella, and DHPP vaccines.

To meet your future pet, come to Guilford County Animal Services between 12 and 4 any day except Tuesday!
