Please read the bio in its ENTIRETY. If you feel your family is a perfect match, please send an email to gateway4paws@gmail.com for additional information. Only complete & qualified applications will be considered or contacted for adoptions. We are a 100% foster-based rescue. Applications & FAQ regarding adoption can be found on our website.

We do not allow shipping & do not transport. You must live within 350 miles from Maryville, IL & able to drive to that area for a meet and greet.

Alma was surrendered to rescue because a heart murmur was detected during one of her puppy visits to the vet. We were happy to be there for her & got her into our cardiology program as soon as we could. Alma was diagnosed pulmonic stenosis, and thankfully she was a candidate for balloon valvuloplasty surgery. The surgery was a complete success, and Alma didn't seem to skip a beat.

Alma is a perfectly happy little girl and has made friends with every canine (& human) she has encountered thus far. Just look at that little face.

Alma is getting used to a leash, but she will need to continue training. She will need a secure enclosure when she arrives at her new home. She doesn't need a big yard, just one big enough to go out and do her business. We may consider an x-pen area if it is secure enough, or a small yard area. It just needs to be secure & Alma should NEVER EVER be left alone outside for any length of time. We cannot stress this enough!

House training is going well. Again, we want her to be set up for success, and that means having a physically secure area in the yard for her to be able to do her business. Her new family must be prepared to provide an environment where Alma will have ample opportunities to continue being successful in her potty training. Changes in environment & her schedule means that new habits will have to be formed, and that takes a little bit of time.

We like to remind applicants that a new puppy is a lot like a toddler. They need to be supervised, and the best way to do that is to have a dedicated space set up for them. This area will be a part of the home where they can see activity & observe, but it is a place that is puppy proofed. Where they can play, lounge, or nap when their family is not directly engaging with them. Playpens, 4-squares, or x-pens are excellent tools to make this possible. They are easily mobile if you want to move them around, too. If you have interior stairs, please have a plan to keep her off the stairs unsupervised. Additionally, please be aware of the stair railing & the distance between the spindles.

Bringing home a new puppy is a huge responsibility that requires oodles of time! Please apply if you meet the requirements & would like to adopt an adorable puppy. Please don’t apply without speaking to your spouse/partner first. We are ready to find Alma her forever family!
