My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Chuckles is a 13 lb Pomeranian mix. While he's adorable, with a prance in his step and a light in his eye - he is a lot of dog in a small package. Precocious, charismatic, pushy, and assertive, he's not for a first time dog owner. He's super friendly and seeks attention from humans, but Chuckles would do well as an only dog or possibly with a larger dog. If you have another dog, a slow and methodical introduction in the home will ensure a positive experience for all. And he's not suited for cats, unless you have one tough kitty!

Chuckles is stressed in a kennel environment, has a lot of energy and will need a home that will allow him to decompress and relax. For this pup that would equate to lots of long quiet walks, one-on-one training and cuddle sessions, and a very soft couch or pillow to catch up on his sleep. Chuckles can get over excited and bark at things he finds exciting while on leash, so a home outside of the city in a quieter area would be best.

He's very people-oriented and would be fine with dog-savvy children or teens. Chuckles knows he's a little prince and is looking for a home that will provide him with firm structure, consistency in expectations/behavior, love, and training. Pomeranians may be small in stature, but they are athletic and intelligent making them excellent agility or other dog sport/obedience prospects. We think if Chuckles focused on a dog sport, he'd be winning all the blue ribbons!

Chuckles's adoptions are by appointment only and require an approved application on file to adopt. Please submit an application through our website and a Milo representative will be in contact to discuss next steps.

More about this rescue

The Milo Foundation is an established 501(c)(3) nonprofit, no-kill organization providing an alternative for homeless pets throughout California, through education, adoption services, and providing sanctuary for animals until permanent homes can be found.

Founded in August of 1994, The Milo Foundation Sanctuary is located on two hundred and eighty-three acres in Mendocino County - offering lots of room for the animals to run and play. The Milo Sanctuary animals typically (but not exclusively) are harder to adopt animals and those needing more rural type homes, such as dogs with social or behavioural challenges, feral cats, horses and other farm animals. The Milo Point Richmond Adoption Center is where the majority of our new rescue intake takes place, typically friendly, adoptable cats and dogs, puppies and kittens rescued from shelters where they were facing euthanasia. The Sanctuary is where highly active or reactive dogs can go and have plenty of space, other canine companions (if they are dog friendly) and live in a stress free environment until such time as the right adoption match can be found.

The Milo Sanctuary is what enables Milo to be a No-Kill organization. Milo brings dogs back and forth from the Adoption Center (MPR) to the Sanctuary to give dogs a break from the stresses of the kennel environment and back to MPR later to try again at being adopted. Potential adopters also do come up to the Sanctuary to adopt, by appointment.
