Meet Papaya!
Papaya joined our ALDR family a few weeks ago after he was brought into the county shelter being witnessed to be hit by a car not once, but twice, which resulted in life threatening injuries. He was taken to Pasco County Animal Services where an exam showed that he had a large degloving wound on his left thorax/shoulder/sternal/neck area, severe bruising, bilateral fractured fibulas, left hip subluxation, pulmonary contusions, sclera hemorrhage and dental disease. Basically the little guy was in bad condition!
Papaya was hospitalized and once he was stabilized he moved into one of our amazing, experienced foster homes with a certified technician that has been providing all care needed since. Sadly he sustained so many wounds, road rash and degloving and one of the largest wounds was becoming necrotic so Papaya ended up back at the ER. He had to have surgery again for full debridement and has since been getting wet-to-dry bandages daily. This stage could take weeks, but we are committed to him and are doing everything we can!
Despite everything, little guy is doing exceptionally well and is full is spunk! His wounds are healing very well, he is taking his meds like a good boy and because of that he got his first pup cup!
If interested in adopting please fill out the adoption application on our website at animalluvrs.org under the ADOPT tab. We will require veterinary, personal and property references that we will verify. Feel free to email us at aldr@animalluvrs.org for more information.
All of our adoptable rescues have a clean bill of health (unless otherwise stated), are spayed/neutered, vaccinated (age-appropriately), tested (FeLV/FIV for cats, HW for dogs over 6 months of age), current on flea and heartworm prevention and microchipped. This is all included in their adoption fee that goes in as a donation to help us cover their medical costs and continue to help other animals in need. Any questions, concerns and suggestions, please feel free to contact us at ALDR@animalluvrs.org.
