My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hey there, humans! I’m Nohemi, the sweet and loving 3-month-old, female mixed breed (possibly a Miniature Pinscher mix) weighing in at a whopping 12lbs! My journey started off a bit ruff – I was found by myself as a stray when I was only 8 weeks old and ended up in a southern kill shelter, but thanks to some kind people, I've been given a second chance at happiness here in Fort Wayne, Indiana. And hey, if you're in Michigan, no worries – my foster Mom is willing to meet you in Coldwater!

Now, I am mostly blind in one eye due to an ulcer I had when I came into the shelter, but let me tell you, it doesn't slow me down one bit and I have no trouble navigating my surroundings. I zip around like the wind and tackle every adventure with gusto. I even walk great on a leash already! Sure, loud cars make me a tad nervous, but with a loving family by my side, I know I'll feel safe and secure. The only time I bark is when I am ready to go out and play. Speaking of which, I will require a FULLY FENCED YARD so I can run and play until my heart’s content.

I absolutely adore hanging out with other dogs – big, small, you name it! My foster siblings include Rotties, Pitties, a Terrier and a Chihuahua! I get along with all of them like peanut butter and jelly. I haven’t had the pleasure of making any feline friends yet, but my gentle nature suggests that we would get along just fine. And I love to give kisses to all the kids I meet. But watch out, I do still have those sharp little puppy teeth. I'm already a pro at sleeping through the night in my cozy crate (I never make a mess in it either!) and I’m starting to get the hang of potty training – I do need to go out about 5 minutes after I eat. And boy, am I a foodie! Show me a tasty treat, and I'll happily sit and give you my best puppy dog eyes. But, alas, I do like to jump when I get really excited. But who can blame me, I am still a puppy and new things are exciting!

I'm all set to join my new family – fully-vetted, microchipped and ready to spread love wherever I go. My adoption fee is $350. Questions? Shoot an email to projecthoperescue@gmail.com. Ready to take the plunge and make me a part of your pack? You can visit our website at www.projecthoperescue.org to fill out an adoption application. I can't wait to meet you and start our paw-some adventures together. Let's make some memories – furever!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We require that the interested adopter come to meet the dog and then fill out an adoption application. We will review the application and then pass on to the dog's foster family (if applicable). We then contact the potential adopter's vet and we will also do a home visit. If all goes well, the adopter signs our adoption contract stating that, among other things, the dog will receive regular vet care and must be returned to us if things do not work out.

More about this rescue

We focus primarily on rescuing senior and special needs dogs in kill facilities. We are located on 30 acres of land in rural southern Michigan. We are a care-for-life facility, so any dog that does not or that we deem cannot be adopted will live with us for the rest of his/her life. Because we rescue the dogs that are not in high demand, it normally takes our dogs longer to find that perfect family. We believe that it takes a special family to adopt our special dogs.
