My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Brutus! This 2-year-old Shih Tzu blend weighs approximately 16 lbs and is ready for snuggles galore!

  • General Behavior: Brutus is very hesitant around strangers but, given time, he bonds very closely with his person. He will soon be snuggling up on the couch and wanting nothing more than chin scratches and toys!

  • Likes & Dislikes:  Brutus is a huge fan of squeaky toys. He often contents himself with chewing and throwing them around, though he will be open to the occasional tug of war. He’s a smart boy who would be great at snuffle mats or puzzle toys to keep his youthful energy occupied. He is not a fan of strangers approaching him and will try to tug away from them, so slow introductions are a must.

  • Training:  Like many pups from hoarding situations, Brutus has never truly been on a leash. However, he is surprisingly great on one and doesn’t tug at all! He only attempts to get away when strangers approach him, so he does need to be leashed at all times and any owner must keep an eye on him and not rush him into interactions. He is also learning that shoes and other random items are not toys, so his new family should commit to continuing this training. Brutus is potty trained when let out on a schedule.

  • Medical: Brutus is a healthy boy! He just needs his monthly flea and heartworm preventatives.

  • Other Animals:  Brutus would be fine as an only dog OR the sibling to a low energy pup. He needs a pup who will allow him time to get used to his new home and not rush him into playing. He is a bit overly interested in cats, so might not be a great fit for a feline who isn’t well versed in a dog best friend.

  • Children: Most likely, Brutus needs a home with children 12+, as he does get scared when approached too quickly or is tugged on/forced into interactions.

  • Home: Brutus will need a single family home. He’s never known what it’s like to be alone, so he does often cry/bark when left to himself. He’s a small boy who doesn’t necessarily need a yard to run around in, though he would enjoy one if possible!

  • Grooming: Brutus has a wiry coat that will need occasional grooms, along with nail trims and bathing.

  • Overall: Brutus is SUCH a love bug when finding his person and is ready to give all his cuddles to the perfect forever family

Is that someone you? Brutus would love to love you! To find the application to adopt, visit our website www.PoodleandPoochRescue.org. His adoption donation is $450.

We are a foster-based rescue organization and do not have a facility. We have all events posted on our website each month.

More about this rescue

Poodle and Pooch Rescue is a 501(c)3 non profit organization that saves dogs that truly need help. We rescue the "leftovers" from animal control, the dogs nobody wants because they're older or suffer from neglect, abuse or have a medical need. Their "last" day becomes the first day of their new life. We provide the veterinary care they need, a foster family they love and when they're ready, we adopt them to a family who cherishes them. We do not have a physical shelter because every dog lives with one of our foster families. We are all volunteers so your tax-deductible donation goes directly to help the dogs. We have saved over 5,500 dogs since 2008.
