My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Shields, a remarkable 2-year-old hound mix, carries a striking coat of black, beautifully contrasted with a white muzzle, painting a picture of unique charm. His journey began when he was found as a stray, the hardships of his past evident in his severely malnourished state. However, through the unwavering care and love of those who found him, Shields has undergone a heartwarming transformation. Now fully recuperated, he radiates with the readiness to embark on a new chapter of life. This gentle soul is on the lookout for a forever home that promises endless affection, security, and companionship. Shields, with his resilient spirit and loving heart, is more than just a pet; he's a testament to the power of second chances and is eagerly waiting to fill his new family's life with joy and unconditional love.

More about this shelter

Concern over a large, and ever increasing, population of homeless dogs and cats, instigated the opening of the Monroe County Animal Shelter.
A not-for-profit organization, Monroe County Friends of Animals help the shelter by providing volunteers, fundraising events, grant writing and more. There is always a need for more volunteers. With a small budget, donations are a welcome necessity. We have developed educational programs to promote spay/neuter and humane care of all animals.
