My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

3/8/24 Update Big News - Tucker completed his board and train program with Cold Water K9 in Castalia. He did great and will need an owner that is willing to continue his training and commands he has leaned. Big thanks to Cold Water K9 for helping Tucker be the best dog he can be!

**This is a great opportunity to adopt a professionally trained dog!! He has wonderful house manners and is housebroken, and crate trained.

If you are interested in Tucker, please complete our online Love-A-Stray application. We can only consider homes with a completed application, so we can learn a little about you to make sure Tucker is a good match. Thank you!

Application: www.loveastraydog.com/application

**If you are interested in offering a temporary foster home for Tucker, as we search for his forever home, Love-A-Stray provides everything needed for the foster program. You have zero expenses. PLEASE consider helping this GREAT dog while we work on finding Tucker a forever home!!

Tucker completed a 6 week board and train program and he knows all his commands. Tucker is ready for his next adventure! If his new potential family or foster has a dog, Tucker would do best with a calm dog that is not reactive and can be a positive influence on him.

Tucker is a typical playful young dog, he is 60lbs and 11 months old, DOB 4/20/23. We are hopeful to find an adopter that will help Tucker by continuing his training. Tucker is super sweet and very smart. He will need daily exercise, typical of a young dog. Tucker has lived with a cat and he is curious about the cat, but since his board and train he does very well just leaving the cat alone ;-). We prefer a home with older children, since he is a larger dog and could easily knock down a toddler. We would love for Tucker to have a fenced in yard (not electric) so he can burn off some young dog energy and he really loves to play fetch, but it is not required as long as new owner is very active and can offer daily walks in all types of Ohio weather;-)! Tucker rides well in the car too.

Tucker is completely vaccinated and neutered.

If you are interested in Tucker, please submit an online application so we can learn a little about you to make sure Tucker would be a perfect match for you and your family. We are looking for local adoption within a 65 mile radius of Avon Lake Ohio, due to our trial adoption process. Adoption fee/donation is $ 150.00.

If you have specific questions, please email the adoption coordinator at info@loveastraydog.com If you can't foster or adopt, please consider donating to help us with medical expenses and ongoing care. You can mail your donation to: Love-A-Stray, P.O. Box 125, Attn: Tucker, Avon Lake, OH 44012 or visit www.loveastraydog.com for credit card/PayPal information, adoption application, available dogs and upcoming events. Thank you!

Meet the Pet

We do not have a physical facility. A meet and greet will be scheduled with a Love-A-Stray Volunteer, the dog, and our interested adopters.

Additional adoption info

Love-A-Stray volunteers across Northern Ohio take in and rescue homeless puppies and dogs and prepare them for adoption into loving permanent homes. Love-A-Stray is a non-profit all volunteer rescue group with most of our volunteers also having full time jobs, so we do the best we can to answer all inquires as soon as possible.

When we first hear from you, we will ask you some basic questions. You'll tell us who you are, where you live, what you know and don't know about the particular breed of dog you are interested in, and whether you already have other pets. We will ask you to complete an online adoption application to ensure we can find your perfect match. The Love-A-Stray volunteer can provide the best information about the pet.

We require adopters to fill out an adoption form and agree to the terms of our adoption contract. All pets are either spay/neutered or come with a certificate for a no cost spay/neuter. Young animals have their first shots and have been wormed. We microchip at time of alter. Our adoption fee just covers our expenses to provide the necessary spay/neuter and vaccinations for the animal.

In addition to looking on the website, we show many of our rescued dogs at regular adoption events. Check out our upcoming events on our website for the next opportunity to meet some of our dogs in person.

Go meet their pets

We do not have a physical facility; our dogs are cared for in foster homes! We arrange meet and greets with potential adopters and a Love-A-Stray Volunteer. More about this rescue

Love-A-Stray is a non-profit, all volunteer, no-kill organization dedicated to helping homeless animals.

Since Love-A-Stray doesn't have a "physical" shelter and our animals are housed in foster homes, we do not have some of the usual operating expenses that would be required for a shelter. Consequently adoption fees, fundraising efforts, and donations go directly to a great cause - the animals! Our four fold mission is to:

1. Lessen pet overpopulation by sterilizing adoptable animals and employing aggressive low-cost spay/neuter programs in an effort to provide financial assistance for families who otherwise would not be able to sterilize their pet.

2. Offer housing for unwanted, homeless animals and when necessary, provide medical treatment including emergency veterinary care.

3. Value the life of all rescue animals by providing innovative behavior rehabilitation, when applicable, and placing them from nurturing foster families into loving, compatible, permanent homes.

4. Educate the public on the importance of being an advocate for animals emphasizing humane treatment and sterilization.
