My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

If you are interested in Skye, please submit an application at  https://toolkit.rescuegroups.org/of/f?c=WHMSYCN. She would love to meet you!

Skye is an adorable Pittie pup with soft, expressive eyes that will melt your heart. This pretty girl is gentle natured and has a sweet, affectionate personality. She can be unsure in new surroundings and may need a little encouragement with treats/toys & happy talk - but it doesn't take long for her to open up and be a silly, happy puppy.

She's food motivated and will be an easy learner with someone that is dedicated to training. When excited, she may jump, but she's eager to please and redirects nicely with a verbal "off" and/or "sit". Surprisingly, she has good impulse control for a puppy, especially if food is involved. She has even learned to sit & wait patiently for her meals! She's doing great with her potty & crate training - she may whine at first in crate, but will usually settle and entertain herself with a toy or bone. She is learning leash manners with an Easy Walk harness.  She also enjoys car.

Skye loves playing with her foster siblings and would thrive with having a well-mannered, neutered male sibling to help teach and guide her. She would do ok as an only dog with a family that is committed to training, socialization and confidence building. She's been tested with a couple older, "dog tolerant" kitties and is respectful of them. She loves children and would be a wonderful family dog.

Every dog has their story:
Skye was posted as a "Free Puppy" on Craigslist and a BFPA volunteer happened to stumble across her ad. Knowing that the situation could possibly turn out bad for this little cutie, she scooped her up and reached out for assistance. Come to find out, before coming to BFPA, baby Skye was tossed from home to home (to no fault of her own). She was in 4 different homes during the first 4 months of her puppyhood. This poor girl never experienced stability during the most important time of her life. She is craving for someone to give her all the love & attention she's been needing. With a little patience, guidance and security, Skye will bond strong with her family and be a wonderful companion.

Some of the information contained in this biography includes approximations based on our expertise and is not guaranteed.      Applicants must live no further than one hour from Raleigh/Cary NC as our dogs must be seen by a BFPA veterinarian /volunteer for all medical care prior to adoptions being finalized. Adopters must be willing to bring their dog to the Raleigh/Cary area for all medical care needed.  Foster guardians deliver dogs to their new homes for adoption trials and we do home visits to finalize all adoptions.  We therefore require applicants to live within one hour drive of Raleigh/Cary NC.   INTERESTED IN ADOPTING SKYE? Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

All of our adoptions require submission of an application which is processed and and must be approved by our adoption coordinator. Potential adopters then take the animal on a trial (minimum of 2 weeks) before the adoption is finalized. This helps to ensure a good fit between the adopting family and the animal. All animals must be up to date on all vaccinations, spayed/neutered, and microchipped before the adoption can be finalized. Adoption fee is $225 for dogs, $115 for cats.

More about this rescue

Best Friend Pet Adoption (BFPA) is a no-kill animal rescue organization based in central North Carolina. BFPA has no building, office, or shelter. We are an all-foster network committed to helping dogs and cats in need of homes. Individual donations are our most important source of income as we receive no public funding.

Our purpose is to provide medical assistance, foster homes, and adoption services to previously lost, abandoned, abused, or neglected animals in Wake County, NC and the surrounding counties. Our mission is to educate this disposable society in which we live that every life should be valued and cherished and is directly linked to human responsibility and commitment.

Almost all the animals we rescue require immediate medical attention. BFPA never turns away or euthanizes an animal because of the expense involved in returning them to good health. All our rescued animals are evaluated for temperament, examined by a veterinarian, vaccinated, microchipped (if possible) and sterilized, if age appropriate. Cats and dogs receive monthly flea/tick preventative and dogs also receive monthly heartworm preventative.

The most important ingredients we provide to these animals are loving care and a safe haven -- something most of them have never experienced. These cats and dogs live in volunteer foster homes until we find them a loving permanent home, however long it takes. We match these precious beings to a single, couple or family who understand cats and dogs should be full participating members of the family. Our hope is that these animals never have to experience being unloved again.

Since our beginning, BFPA has rescued and placed thousands of cats and dogs into their forever homes.

BFPA was created in 1998 by two Raleigh-area women who had volunteered with other established rescues in the Triangle. Their dedication to help homeless dogs and cats has led to an organization that has grown to over 225 volunteers strong.

BFPA received 501(c)(3) status in 1999.
