My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Nico is a year and a half old handsome dobie boy that is full of energy as any teenager would be. He had a rough start, but along came a kind person that gave him a chance at a better life. She nursed him back from a very sad and skinny state. It's amazing what good nutrition, a soft place to sleep and lots of love can do. Unfortunately where she lived having a young energetic Doberman wasn't ideal for anyone, so she turned to rescue for help.

Nico will be fine with a female dog of similar size. He has met some kitties and so far does not want to hurt them but is certainly waiting for them to run so he can give chase. For the sanity of the cats in the world he will be better suited in a no kitty home.

Nico loves all people, a typical velcro happy dobie boy. We have not had him around children but he should be ok with kids 10 years and older.
Nico will do best in a home with a physically fenced yard.

When we got Nico we were told that he had some dental issues that needed to be addressed. We sent him to the doggy dentist and it has been discovered that he has Dentinogenesis Imperfecta. That's a fancy way to say he has a hereditary abnormality in the formation of dentin (bulky tooth structure under the enamel). He has lost a few teeth but at this time the others look healthy. Nico will need an annual dental to make sure his teeth are all ok.

More about this rescue

Bluegrass Doberman Rescue was formed to provide a needed service to the Doberman rescue community based in the state of Kentucky. Although the rescue itself was just formed in 2017, the volunteers behind it have over 10 years of experience in rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming Dobermans. We are committed to helping purebred Dobermans find their forever homes as well as educating the public about this often misunderstood breed. We understand that not everyone can own a Doberman but we are also here to provide support to those who do. We believe this rescue should be a cooperative effort between all volunteers and a collaborative effort between rescues to help this wonderful breed of dogs we all love.
