My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Rufus, the epitome of resilience wrapped in a bundle of love. With his heartwarming affection for snuggles, finding comfort and security in the close embrace of his beloved human, Rufus is a true embodiment of joy despite his past trials.

Despite being found with a significant wound on his neck, Rufus refuses to let his past dictate his present. Instead, he radiates the exuberant goofiness and boundless spirit characteristic of pit bulls. While his original wound is on the path to healing and a full recovery, Rufus may face ongoing challenges with chronic ear issues due to the manner in which they were cropped.

An endearing quirk of Rufus is his preference for sleeping under the covers and surprisingly, a fondness for bath time! He enjoys nothing more than blissful hammock lounging on sunny days, his infectious happiness and unwavering optimism serve as a testament to his invincible spirit.

Through it all, Rufus continues to approach life with an infectious zest, reminding us all to embrace each day with gratitude and a wagging tail. In the face of adversity, Rufus proves that love, resilience, and a little bit of silliness can conquer even the toughest of circumstances. More about this rescue

Big Paws of the Ozarks is a foster-based dog rescue in Northwest Arkansas. We aim to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome dogs in our local community. We specialize in large breed dogs (over 40 pounds) but do get the occasional small paw in rescue too! We work closely with shelters and other rescues in our community to target and save dogs who are at risk of euthanasia or have found themselves falling between the cracks of our animal rescue community.
