More about this rescue

We are a nonprofit animal welfare organization working to create a safe and healthy world for every animal, and for the people who love them.
Rescata Perros En Puerto Rico Inc. is deeply dedicated to the well-being of the nearly 500,000 stray dogs that call Puerto Rico’s streets their home. These animals, left to fend for themselves, not only suffer medical and emotional neglect but also pose inadvertent risks to the community, especially children and drivers.

We started in 2014 as a small group of concerned citizens, leveraging the power of social media, specifically Facebook groups, to spread awareness and foster community involvement. Today, our online community has grown exponentially to over 63,000 members, each united in the mission to protect and care for these dogs.

We have recently taken the significant step to incorporate and secure full tax-exempt status to ensure the transparency and judicious use of all funds. Our dream is to establish a no-kill sanctuary, a safe haven where these dogs can recuperate and find the love they desperately need.

However, our ambitions, while noble, come with their set of challenges. Establishing this sanctuary demands substantial resources for infrastructure, medical care, sustenance, and operational costs. We also recognize the distress of local businesses. Many, lacking the resources or knowledge to manage strays seeking food and affection, resort to inhumane methods like poisoning or harming these creatures. Our sanctuary aims to provide a solution to this by creating a safe space large enough to house these dogs until they can find forever homes.
