My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi everybody, I am the super-handsome and super smart (or so they tell me) Storm and here's a bit of information about me:
Breed: Belgian Malinois
Age: 6 yrs
Gender: Male
Weight: about 60-65 Lb.
Height: about 25 in.
Highlights: loves carrots, smart, active, loves people company, loyal

Nooo, I'm not a rabbit, but one thing I really love is carrots. Yup... crunchy munchy. Baby photo with carrot, for effect. So please keep a bag around for me. At the trainer I eat a raw diet, but I'm just as happy eating kibble.

I am an active dog and need enough exercise to tire me out, but when I am calm, I love to be in people's company and would love to be part of a family. My favorite activity after dinner is to lay on top of my people. I like playing with other dogs and it is so much fun! Smaller dogs and female dogs are my best friends, but I'm not too sure about German Shepherds.

A few months ago, I was attacked by two Golden Retrievers that were bigger than me, but I'm totally good with the smaller Golden Retriever that's at the trainer's. I like girl dogs the best. Wink. I'm okay with bigger dogs, but don't like when they're too pushy. If I'm outside, I'll run away from them.

Currently I am receiving some training, just to help me understand boundaries better, especially when it comes to taking care of and protecting the people I love. For example, I didn't realize that I didn't have to guard my mom's knitting with my life, and especially not from her! Oops. After all, protection is what my kind of breed does so well!

I would do well in a calm environment where there's fun activities to do for my brain. I could do search-and-rescue and hide-and-seek games.

My trainer says that I have already improved much within only a week and I have calmed down significantly. Turns out I just needed to learn what the word "no" means, so a firm but kind approach is what works best for me. I am very energetic so I'll pull if you let me. When I do pull, it's important you stop me right away. I can walk slower but you have to make sure to walk slowly with me. I love a lot of exercise and really like to learn tricks and commands. I'm a fast learner with the right teacher.

Regardless, I am devoted and committed to humans and I just need some patience from my new owner as I learn what you expect from me and settle into my new behaviors.

My previous family said I'm good being left at home alone. But I'm not good being put in a room and you're still home because then I'll try to get out to be beside you. I will bark and scratch to try to get out to be with you. If you ever need to go anywhere that requires a muzzle, I'm already trained to use one, no prob. Big smile.

Energy Level: high

I get along with:
Dogs: yes
Cats: unknown
Kids: unknown

Fears: I can startle if I'm sleeping on the floor beside you and you get up too quickly and loudly. My inner ears are very sensitive, so please clean them gently (I don't like sharp fingernails). Please be patient assisting me in my transition.

Training: currently in training program through Arfarfbarkbark.
Leash skills: in progress. Please be prepared to continue training.
House trained: Yes. Please help me learn where to go in my new home. I can hold over night or when you are out.

Health notes:
I will be getting neutered on Apr 18th. I am vaccinated and microchipped.

My adoption fee is $750.00 CAD plus applicable taxes. This includes my transportation to Canada, if I am able to be accompanied by a flight volunteer directly to Vancouver.

Disclaimer: It is important for all applicants to visit our website, http://www.lovedatlastdogrescue.ca/adopting/ and read about Loved at Last Dog Rescue.

Please Note: LALDR highly encourages adopters to research some local dog trainers before their dog arrives. Although a 1-on-1 trainer is often not needed, it is good to have someone in mind in case any problematic behaviours arise. Most bad behaviours can be modified if caught early enough, so make sure to nip undesirable behaviours in the bud before they become serious problems.

Basic training should be taken seriously, but should not begin until your dog is well settled in - at least a couple of weeks. After you feel your new dog is relaxed and comfortable in their new home, check out training courses in your local area. Even basic beginner courses like those taught at a local pet store can have a huge benefit in helping your dog learn to socialize and get used to being in public situations, all with the added benefit of strengthening their bond with you.

The age and breed of a dog is usually an educated guess, so we are not able to guarantee the accuracy of age or breed of our dogs.

Information included in the profile is provided to us from the international rescuer or local fosters. LALDR does not have access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of their descriptions. Every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person adopting them and the environment in which they live.

Normally, we will not approve adoptions to homes with children under 12 years of age. However if a dog has been determined to be good with children we will approve applicants with children 8 years or older. More information can be found on our website.

More about this rescue

Loved At Last Dog Rescue operates in the Greater Vancouver area. We rescue and rehome local dogs as well as homeless dogs from numerous countries around the world, including Mexico, Korea, China, Iran, Kuwait, Bahrain and India. Many of these dogs have experienced hardship and cruelty yet they are gentle and loving. We have found that dogs who have experienced suffering appreciate every kindness shown them. All our dogs are fully vaccinated, microchipped and those over 6 months are spayed or neutered.
