Oden has been with his foster for 1 month now, and I can't believe this gorgeous boy hasn't been snatched up yet! After a bit of a sad start - dumped by his family, scared, underweight, and in overall poor condition - Oden has turned it around and is doing great.
He is currently being fostered on a farm with lots of other animals, and he's shown himself to be dog, cat, horse, adult, and kid friendly! He can be a little timid in new situations where he's unsure, but it doesn't take him long to relax and join the party. He loves to play with toys and his doggy friends, go on trail rides with the horses, swim in the creek, and get all the scritches and pets from his people. For a young GSD/Malinois mix, he's a moderate energy level - which means high energy compared to most other breeds. He isn't a stereotypical 'crazy Mal' at all, but he does have exercise needs beyond a walk around the block.
Oden knows basic obedience (including off leash recall), is crate trained, and has a good settle in the house. He was not a fan of car rides initially but is getting more comfortable with them, and he's been a perfect gentleman on outings to dog-friendly venues - as well as at the vet. He always wants to do the right thing and make his person happy, so he's very easy to train and listens well when corrected.
Oden really is a terrific dog, and if my personal GSD wasn't too much of a princess to play rough and tumble with a Maligator I would probably wind up keeping him. Approved adopters are welcome to contact tgillisp1@gmail.com with questions or to schedule a meet-n-greet.
UPDATE: As Oden is getting in better physical condition, his energy levels are rising as well. I would like to encourage any potential adopters to read about Belgian Malinois if they are not already familiar with the breed. Oden's ideal home would include either doggy friend/s to play hard every day with or an owner interested in being active with their dog - such as dog sports, running, or some other kind of advanced training. Or better yet, all of the above! He is an easy dog in the sense that he has shown no reactivity issues and loves to please, but he will likely become destructive and problematic if bored or under exercised.
